Coles may be giving butchers "the chop" and "restructuring" their meat department.

Remember Tesco also recently announced they are getting rid of meat/fish department -- almost like they know they won't be needed in the future ...

Major changes coming to #retail ...

____

The Australasian Meat Industry Employees Union says 1524 Coles meat employees will be affected under the move, which would mean meat would be delivered already cut rather than prepared in-house.

“They want to get rid of the whole lock, stock and barrel,” the union’s Victorian secretary secretary Paul Conway said.

“All meat managers, all butchers, all slicers and the others that do packing and stocking shelves.”

Aldi is testing a completely new concept: Smartphones are becoming a must when shopping

Aldi wants to achieve the optimized processes using artificial intelligence (AI) and smart solutions. The specific plan: Customers should check in and out using the QR code of a corresponding app. When leaving the store, the customer app should also be used to pay completely contactlessly and automatically.

Customers can also use the app to request refunds, manage their purchase histories or provide feedback. "Digitization must support our core strategy and make purchasing even easier for our customers," explains Kashif Ansari, Chief Strategy Officer at ALDI.

All other processes in the test branch are carried out using sensors in the shelves and the camera technology used in the store, explains Aldi. The cameras would record the shopping movements in the store and assign them to the right customer. For data protection reasons, facial data would be filtered out directly and not processed [IAF: is this supposed to make me feel better?].

The test will initially start in the Netherlands - in a branch in Utrecht. To this end, Aldi is working with the technology company Trigo, which is developing AI-supported infrastructure for retail stores.

Initially, the test should run for twelve months. What is on the test bench is whether the automatic payment process simplifies the processes. Specifically, it is about "future uses of the technology".

Access to food being restricted — starts with the employees:

ALDI to terminate employment of all Unvaccinated workers by March 2022

The supermarket chain ALDI, has written to all employees informing them that they have until 1st March 2022, to provide proof of their Covid-19 vaccination status, and if they refuse to do so or are confirmed to be not-vaccinated then their employment will be terminated.

The proposed mandate will apply to all ALDI stores in Australia, the current testing ground for the most Draconian and disproportionate restrictions, but it’s only a matter of time before they enforce the same policy throughout stores elsewhere.

Kroger adds $50 monthly surcharge for unvaccinated workers, cuts their COVID-19 sick leave

Unlike Aldi’s carrot (paying employees to get the shot), Kroger has decided to use a stick: charging $50 per month to employees that haven't gotten shots. For now…

Kroger said it is "modifying policies to encourage safe behaviors including vaccination."

KANSAS CITY (KCTV) -- Hy-Vee is introducing armed security guards to stores across its eight-state region, including in the Kansas City area, the grocery chain announced this week.

The Hy-Vee Retail Security team will be “specially trained to defuse situations and equipped to protect the safety of both Hy-Vee customers and employees,” the company said in a statement. “The officers have been through training designed by Hy-Vee retail security leaders alongside law enforcement partners.”

The company said it already has armed security in several stores, and plans to implement the new plan in its other stores “in the near future.”

Hy-Vee released a video along with the announcement, showing b-roll video of security wearing badges and guns while walking Hy-Vee’s aisles and interacting with customers.

UK: Asda drops expiration dates on food.

@iceagefarmer note: I’d mentioned just two weeks ago that removing expiration dates from food was part of the EU “Farm to Fork” and Rockefeller “Reset the Table” discussions — and now we see it rolling out!

But, this is just a small change compared to the major changes coming for food #retail.

Supermarket Asda has introduced a budget line of products, only to limit purchases thereof to three per customer.

This is actually similar to to the Iranian scheme of subsidizing only a few items a week — everyone is free to purchase as much EXPENSIVE food as you want (can), but for those of us swept up in the intentional economic devastation, well, you only get three packs of affordable vegan hot dogs, slave.

Empty Shelves as Inflation Leaves Products Unprofitable

“Not only Mars [who worked hand in hand with Rockefeller Foundation on "Reset the Table], but also Coca Cola [WEF partner] or Procter & Gamble [WEF Partner] are currently trying to ride the wave of inflation with excessive price demands in order to increase their returns,” a spokesman for the Edaka chain of supermarkets claimed.

The official went on to claim that a number of major companies have now halted deliveries to the chain, something that they alleged is being used to put pressure on supermarkets.

Products ranging from Kellogg’s cornflakes to Coca Cola have disappeared from supermarkets throughout Germany, with many shops being left with empty shelves as products become simply unprofitable to sell due to differentials in inflation.

It comes as overall inflation hit 10% in the country in September, with EU-wide inflation for the month falling just short of 11% as a result of the ongoing #EnergyCrisis, which has in turn hiked the cost of food and other essential goods.

Retailers in the country however have strongly resisted this, with one supermarket chain in the country going so far as to accuse major companies of “price gouging” and “usury”.

“The situation in the industry is critical to catastrophic,” Federal Association of the Food Industry general manager Christoph Minhoff remarked regarding the feud, which has seen some individual rows even reportedly ending up in court as companies are unable to come to a compromise.

As a result of these ongoing hostilities between supermarkets and producers, a wide variety of well-known brands have disappeared from supermarkets throughout Germany, leaving many shops with empty shelves.

The likes of Coca Cola, Pepsi, Snickers, Kellogg’s Cornflakes, Milka Chocolate, Ritter Sport chocolate, Wrigley’s chewing gum, along with many other products ranging from mayonnaise to pet food have all been affected, though availability reportedly varies between supermarket chains.
