Portugal:

100% crop loss due to hail

The mayor of Lamego has said that “there are 100% crop losses” in the county, with damage of “enormous severity”, which is being evaluated, due to this weekend’s hailstorm.
“Parishes in the vineyard and orchard areas, such as Cambres, Sande and the town of Lamego, Várzea de Abrunhais, Britiande and Valdigem, mainly on Sunday, suffered extremely serious damage, with several situations of 100% crop damage,” the mayor of Lamego, Angelo Moura, told Lusa news agency on Monday.
“There were situations of damage to infrastructures”, but what “is of greater concern and where the damage is greater are the vineyards and orchards of various fruits”, stressed the mayor.

“Last night, record-breaking hail lashed parts of central Queensland, with gigantic hailstones measuring 16 centimetres confirmed as the largest ever in Australia's history.

The abnormally large hail fell at Yalboroo, north of Mackay, as a supercell thunderstorm passed over the region yesterday at lunchtime.

The BOM confirmed some were the biggest they'd ever seen in the country, breaking the previous record of 14 centimetres set in Kempsey, regional New South Wales, back in 1999.
Meteorologists said they were expecting some storm activity in Queensland the wake of the severe weather on Monday, however the monstrous hailstones produced were not in the forecast.
