The Station of Contentment [Ar-Ridā]
Imām Ibn al-Qayyim said:
“Contentment is one of the greatest gateways to Allāh. It is the paradise of the world, a repose [tranquil] for the pious, a life for the lovers, a delight for the worshipers, and a coolness of the eye to the yearners.”
Madārij as-Sālikīn [2/132]
Reflections:
- Contentment comes from knowing Allāh is the best of planners.
- Accepting Allāh’s decree is the path to true happiness.
- Patience and Imān transform challenges into blessings.
Action plan
- Place your trust in Allāh in all your affairs.
- Maintain a good opinion of Allāh no matter the decree.
- Say the following supplications to help gain contentment from Allāh:
اللَّهُمَّ أَسْأَلُكَ الرِّضَا بِالْقَدَرِ
“O Allāh, I ask You for contentment with the decree of providence.”
اللهُمَّ رَضِّنِي بِقَضَائِكَ وَبَارِكْ لِي فِي قَدْرَكَ
“O Allāh, make me content with Your decree and bless me in what You have decreed.”

Du’ā (Supplication):
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:
“And of the diseases that afflict du’ā and prevent its response is that a person is hasty in expecting a response, and the response is delayed, so he gives up hope, and leaves du’ā.
His example is like that of a person who planted a seed, or a seedling, then guarded it, and took care of it, and watered it, but when it delayed in (giving its fruit) and reaching perfection, he left it and did not take care of it anymore.”

The precious qualities of Allāh, the treasure of piety, pleasure, longing for Him, joy and the happiness found in being close to Him will never happen to the heart that cares for anyone or anything besides Allāh - even if he was among the people of worship, piety, and knowledge.”

The Virtue of Friday:
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله
"Friday is the day of worship, its comparison to other days like the comparison of the month of Ramadan to other months and the hour in it is like the Night of Decree in Ramadan."

In the Qur'ān, the word "darkness" is used in a plural form, while the word "light" is singular.
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:
"This is from the miracles of the Qur'ān because there are many paths that lead to darkness, but only one leads to light."

A void that can only be filled by Allāh…
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:
“In the heart are disorders that cannot be remedied except by responding to Allāh. In it is a desolate feeling that cannot be removed except by intimacy with Him in solitude. In it is sadness which will not leave except by happiness with knowing Him and truthfulness in His dealings. In it is anxiety that is not made tranquil except by gathering for His sake and fleeing to Him from His punishment. In it is a fire of regret which cannot be extinguished except by satisfaction with His commands, prohibitions, and decrees, and embracing patience with that until the time he meets Him. In it is a strong desire that will not cease until He is the only one who is sought. In it is a void that cannot be filled except by His love, turning to Him, always remembering Him, and being sincere to Him. Were a person to be given the entire world and everything in it, that would never fill the void.”

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله mentioned some signs to indicate whether a person has a sound heart, from them:
“Is that when he enters the salaah, all of his anxieties and worries concerning the Dunyā leave him, and he finds it difficult to leave the prayer.”

“Indeed, sadaqah has a remarkable effect in repelling an array of tribulations, even if it (sadaqah) were to come from a wicked sinner or an oppressor – rather even from a disbeliever.
For indeed; Allāh, The Most High by way of it repels an array of tribulations, and this is an affair which is known by the people – their exclusive ones as well as the general ones, and the people of the earth – all of them acknowledge that – because they have indeed experienced it.”
