Taqwa & Good Character
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:
“The Prophet ﷺ established a relationship between the fear of Allāh and good character, because fearing Allāh improves the relation between the servant and Allāh, and good character improves the relation between a person and others. Therefore, fearing Allāh makes it possible for Allāh to love him, and good manners makes it possible for people to love that person.”

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:
“Once wealth is in your possession, but (its love) is not in your heart, then it won’t have an effect on you even if it’s a lot. But once it is in your heart, it affects you even if you have nothing of it in your possession.”

"No servant commits a sin except that a blessing from Allāh is removed from him according to that sin. If he repents and returns, it will return to him or something like it. If he persists, it will not return to him, and sins will continue to take blessings from him until all blessings are taken away."

"You will find a righteous and virtuous man, distinguished by his beautiful manners, appearing among the most pleasant-looking people — even if he is not handsome. This is especially true if he has been blessed with the habit of praying at night, for indeed, the night prayer brings light and beauty to the face."

“From the very moment of creation, mankind is on a journey. He Is a traveler and is not allowed to halt except when he reaches either Paradise or Hellfire. The wise one among them is the one who knows that traveling is based on hardship and danger. It is usually hard to seek pleasures and relief during it, which are to be acquired after it is completed.
Every footstep and every moan made during this journey will not stop him. It is proven that the traveler is preparing supplies, which will take him to his final end. And if he halts, sleeps, or rests, he is doing so while preparing himself to complete his journey.”

“Which life is better than the life of a person whose worries have all united and become one concern directed towards attaining the pleasure of Allāh, gathered the scattered feelings of his heart through the devotion to Allāh, whose intentions and thoughts were once divided- each scattered in a different valley- are now focused on Allāh.
So the remembrance of the Most Beloved, the love to Him and the longing to meet Him and the comfort in being near to him becomes overwhelming for him. His concern, intentions and objectives and the feelings of his heart revolve around all this.”

Tests & Trials…
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:
“For indeed Allāh does not put to task a servant in order to destroy him. Instead, He does so to test his patience (sabr) and his servitude (ubudiyyah). For indeed to Allāh belongs the servitude of His servant in times of adversity just as it is in times of prosperity. Also in those things he dislikes as well as those things which he loves.
Most of creation offer their [acts of] worship in things which they love, but the real test is to offer Him [acts of] worship in things that are disliked. It is due to this, the levels of the people are recognised, and according to it they will have their station determined with Allāh, the Most High.”
