Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:

‎"If you see Allāh giving you from His blessings one after the other, whilst you yourself are constant upon disobeying Him, be vigilant…

‎because this (i.e blessings) is only an enticement (towards punishment) that Allāh is enticing you with."

[ad-Daa wa Dawaa | Pg. 35]
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:

‎“The Prophet ﷺ was the most generous of people, and he was at his most generous in Ramadan, when he would give a great deal of charity, do good deeds, read Qur'ān, remember Allāh (dhikr) and observe i'tikaf.⁣⁣”

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:

"The (true) fasting individual is the one whose limbs abstain from sins; and whose tongue abstains from lying, vulgarity and false speech; and whose stomach abstains from food and drink; and whose private parts abstain from obscenities.”

[al-Waabil al-Sayyib | 43]

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:

“The objective behind fasting is to restrain the soul from desires (for food, drink, and sexual relations), divert it from its normal circumstances, tame the strong desires, prepare it to attain the happiness and benefits (from fasting), and purify it from its untamed state.

By experiencing the intensity of hunger and thirst, one is reminded of the condition of the hungry stomachs of needy people.”

[Zaad Al-Ma’ad]
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:

‎“Fasting is a protection against ailments of the spirit, heart and body; its benefits are innumerable, and it has an amazing effect in preserving health…”

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:

“The best of those who fast are those who remember Allāh the most in their fast."

[al-Waabil al-Sayyib | Pg. 153]
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:

‎“Fasting has an amazing effect in preserving the outer limbs and inner strength.”

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:

“The purpose behind fasting is to restrain the soul from desires and to wean it from those things to which it has become accustomed to; and to balance the soul’s force of desire, so that it can be prepared to attain wherein lies the utmost degree of happiness and delight for the soul, and the acceptance of what purifies it for its eternal life.”

[Zaad al-Maʿad | 2/28-29]
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:

“(By fasting) one narrows the passageways of Shayṭān within the servant (of Allāh), by narrowing the passageways of food and drink. As well, it restrains the force of the limbs from giving way to its dominating nature of that which is harmful to it in this world and the hereafter.

And, (fasting) subdues every limb and might of the soul from (following its) whims, and harnesses it by its bridle.

For, surely (the fast) is the bridle of the muttaqūn [the righteous, those having taqwá] and the shield of the warriors [a shield between them and the Hell-fire].”

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:

‎“Fasting is abandoning those things beloved and desired by the soul, favoring instead Allāh’s love and contentment.”

‎[Zaad al-Maʿad | 2/28-29]
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:

"There is no honor for one's soul except with submission (to Allāh), no glory except with subservience (to Allāh), no comfort except with weariness (for the sake of Allāh), no satiation except with hunger (for the sake of Allāh i.e. fasting), no security except with fear (of Allāh), no pleasure except with feeling alienated from everything but its Creator, and no life except with death."

[Al-Fawā’id | Pg. 106]
‎Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:

“Whoever reflects upon the dunya and hereafter will know that he cannot attain one of them except with difficulty, so let him bare the difficulty for the one that is better and more lasting."

‎[al-Fawā’id | Pg. 37]
‎Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:

‎“The Salaf (rıghteous predecessors) disliked that one sleeps between the times of Fajr and sunrise because it is the time of gain and the distribution of provision and blessings (by Allāh).”

‎[Madārij As-Sālikīn]

‎Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:

“The best life is attained by the blessed through patience, and they rise to the highest degrees through their gratitude. So they fly on the wings of patience and gratitude to gardens of delight (i.e paradise).

That is the bounty of Allāh that he bestows upon whomsoever He will, and Allāh is the owner of great bounty.”

[‘Uddat as-Sabireen]
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:

‎“What Allāh wills will inevitably be, and what He does not will won't be, even if all of creation come together in agreement.”

‎[al-Fawā’id]
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:

“If Allāh wills to do good to his slave He removes admiration of his good deeds from his heart, and removes the speaking about it from his tongue, and makes only busy of watching his sins and reduce them.”

[Tareequl-Hijratain | Pg. 310]
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:

‎“And if Allāh, wants to have mercy on his slave then he puts in his heart compassion and kindness,

‎And if he wants to punish his slave,

‎he removes from his heart mercy and compassion, replacing it with harshness and hardness.”

‎[Kitab al-Ruh | Pg. 250]
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:

If the Night of Qadr was some night during the entire year, I'd stand in night prayer the entire year to get it. So what do you suppose should be done for merely ten nights?.”

[Bada’i al-Fawa’id | 1/55]
What can Allāh do for me?

‎Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:

‎• He forgives sins
‎• Eases worries
‎• Relieves distress
‎• Helps the defeated person back on his feet
‎• Makes the poor rich
‎• Guides the one who is astray and confused
‎• Fulfils the needs of the desperate
• Feeds the hungry
• Clothes the naked
• Conceals faults
• Calms fears

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:

‎“You may see a kind, righteous man who has a beautiful attitude, as one of the most beautiful of people in appearance, even if he is not good-looking,

especially if he is blessed with a share of Qiyam al-Layl (the night prayer), for it gives light to the face and makes it handsome.”

[Rawdat al-Muhibbeen | 221-223]
