Earthquakes: Your Lord Is Warning You
Imām Ibn Al-Qayyim [d. 751H] said:
“Allāh sometimes gives the earth permission to breathe, which is when major earthquakes happen; this makes people feel scared, so they repent, give up sins, pray to Allāh and feel regret [for their sins].
When there had been an earthquake, some of the Salaf said: Your Lord is warning you.
When Medina was struck by an earthquake, ‘Umar Ibn Al-Khattāb addressed the people and said:
“If there is another earthquake, I will not stay here with you.”
See Miftah Dār Al-Sa’āda [1/221].

I have discovered from my own experience that whenever someone increases in knowledge, they discover how much greater their ignorance is.”

The one who lets his gaze roam free…

“Love has an amazing effect on expanding the heart and curing the soul; no one knows this except one who has experienced it. The more the love increases and the stronger it becomes, the more the heart expands.
In contrast, the greatest thing that restricts the heart is turning away from Allāh and attaching the heart to other than Him, being heedless of remembering Him, and loving other than Him. Whoever loves other than Allāh will be punished by that thing, and it will imprison his heart.”

📌 Showing off
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:
“Ostentation, however little, annuls good deeds and (enters by any one of) countless doors. An action incompatible with the observance of the Sunnah is another thing that renders them vain.
Boasting in one's heart to God of some good act done, spoils it. Flaunting one's charity, virtue, generosity, personal virtue or liberality towards one's family, ruins these deeds, as Allāh has said:
'O you who believe, do not render your almsgiving vain by reminders of your generosity or by injury.'

It is said,
'Patience is that intellect and religion stand firm when faced with lusts and desires.'
The meaning of this is that human nature runs after that which it loves, but intellect and religion prevent it. As such the two are at continuous war with each other, and this war has its ups and downs. The battlefield is the heart, patience, courage and firmness.
