Human Rights Voice — Promoting justice, dignity, and freedom for all.
(Human Rights Voice / Sagalee Mirga Namoomaa) fits within the Ethiopian Constitution, the key reference is the FDRE Constitution of 1995, especially the sections on fundamental rights and freedoms.
Here’s how our NGO aligns with it:
1. Freedom of Association (Article 31)
The Constitution clearly states:
“Every person has the right to freedom of association for any cause or purpose.”
This means:
Our legally allowed to establish an independent organization like Human Rights Voice
The organization can operate as long as it follows the law
2. Freedom of Expression (Article 29)
Everyone has the right to seek, receive, and impart information and ideas.
This supports our work:
Investigating and exposing human rights violations
Publishing reports and awareness campaigns
Using media and advocacy
3. Human Rights Protection (Chapter Three)
This is the core foundation of our NGO.
Relevant articles include:
Article 13 – All government bodies must respect and enforce human rights
Article 14 – Right to life, security, and liberty
Article 15–18 – Protection against torture, inhumane treatment, and arbitrary detention
Article 25 – Right to equality
Article 32 – Freedom of movement
Our organization’s mission directly supports monitoring and promoting these rights.
4. Right to Access Justice (Article 37)
Everyone has the right to bring a justiciable matter to court.
This aligns with:
our legal aid services
Supporting victims to seek justice
5. Role of Civil Society
While the Constitution doesn’t detail NGOs extensively, it implicitly supports civil society through:
Democratic participation
Accountability and transparency
Protection of fundamental rights
Our organization contributes by:
Holding institutions accountable
Amplifying citizens’ voices
6. Limitations (Important Reality Check)
The Constitution allows rights, but also includes limitations:
Laws may restrict activities in the name of national security, public order, or morality
NGOs must comply with Ethiopian Civil Society Organizations (CSO) law
So in practice:
Registration is required
Reporting and funding rules apply
Political neutrality (which you already included) is important
Bottom Line
Our organization is fully consistent with the Ethiopian Constitution, especially in:
Promoting fundamental rights
Supporting justice and equality
Strengthening democratic accountability
But its operation must stay within:
Legal registration frameworks
CSO regulations
Constitutional limitations
