Important update regarding Eilat:
Recently we petitioned the District Court to allow asylum seekers who live in Eilat to receive service at the city's Population Authority office, as was the practice before the Coronavirus. We have recently received many inquiries from asylum seekers living in Eilat, and after gathering information and attempting to find a solution with the State ourselves without any answer, we decided it was time to go to court. The State should respond to our petition within a month, and we will continue to update you with developments. Read more about it >> https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/.premium-eilat-asylum-seekers-forced-to-go-to-bnei-brak-for-visa-service-1.9046930
Important update regarding the our reception hours:
On Wednesday, 12.8 we will hold the last phone reception for the month of August, during the next week (16-20.8) we will be available on WhatsApp in this number 054-6270898. Between the dates 23-31.8, the Hotline's staff will be on vacation and so we will not be available. Please note that this week the Population and Immigration Authority will also operate on a limited basis.
We remind you that asylum seekers from Eritrea and Sudan can extend their visas through the online form on the Population Authority website >> https://bit.ly/2VR9bGH
After many requests, the Population Authority issued a notice stating that the extension, together with the original visa, constitutes official confirmation that the visa is valid, you can show this notice to employers, officials or apartment owners who refuse to accept the extension >> https://www.gov.il/he/Departments/news/extending_permits_for_eritrea_sudan_19072020
If you lost the original visa, you can send an email to the Ministry of the Interior using this address - Lost-visa@piba.gov.il. Be sure to mention your name, visa number and ask to arrange a date for a new visa.
If you are applying for asylum from countries other than Eritrea or Sudan and your visa is about to expire - you should receive a text message from the Ministry of the Interior with a date for a visa renewal. If you have not received such a message, you can contact the Ministry of the Interior by email at rsd_pniot@piba.gov.il. Make sure to write your name, visa number and telephone number in the email.
We wish everyone good health,

// Update on asylum applications from Darfur, Nuba Mountains, and Blue Nile //
Ahead of the hearing later this month regarding petitions filed by our friends attorneys Michal Pomeranz, Carmel Pomerantz, and Tomer Warsaw, the State submitted its current position earlier today. The State claims that these asylum requests cannot be decided upon at this time due to the unstable political situation in Sudan as well as the diplomatic sensitivity between Sudan and Israel.
The State commented at length on the current situation in Sudan, noting that:
- In recent months, there have been violent escalations in Darfur and other areas, especially in eastern Sudan.
- The militias responsible for the violent attacks in recent weeks in Sudan include individuals who carried out genocide in the country in the 2000s.
- Some of the attacks took place in refugee and internally displaced persons camps, and led many to flee to neighboring Chad.
- It is too early to assess the impact of the reconciliation agreement signed yesterday with some of the rebel groups, and an agreement has not yet been reached with the central faction operating in Darfur.
Despite all this, the State clings to the confidential diplomatic contact between Israel and Sudan to claim that now is not the time to decide on asylum applications. Meanwhile, many asylum seekers in Israel receive disturbing photos like the one below on a daily basis from friends and family who remain in Sudan, and the State is well aware of this bloody reality. There is no dispute about the facts of the matter: now it is in the court's hands. The petitions will be heard on September 21 and we will continue to update on developments.
