An Underrated AI Tool That Help
me A lot

Most people talk about ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini, but today I want to share a tool that has genuinely helped me in my development journey: Kimi AI
What makes Kimi special isn't just its coding abilityβ€”it's how well it handles long conversations, large codebases, documentation, and project planning. When working on complex projects, it often helps me understand problems, debug issues, and organize my thoughts more effectively.

One small but powerful thing I've been using recently is the cat commandin the terminal.

Instead of manually opening files and copying code, I can simply use:

bash cat filename.js

to display the contents of a file directly in the terminal and quickly share it with AI for debugging or improvements.

Sometimes productivity isn't about finding a magical toolβ€”it's about learning small commands and workflows that save time every day.

Don't ignore underrated tools.

πŸ” Quick Tip

Most developers enable GitHub 2FA... but many forget the most important part.
Save your Recovery Codes. Don't rely only on your Authenticator app.
πŸ“± Authenticator codes are for everyday login.
πŸ”‘ Recovery codes are your backup if you lose or reset your phone.
Trust meβ€”those few minutes can save your GitHub account.

Imagine a startup that grows from 3 people to 50, but everyone still shares one giant desk with all the company’s paperwork piled in the middle.

The Chaos: If an intern pulls out a marketing flyer from the bottom of the pile, they accidentally knock over the entire payroll stack.

The Software Connection: This is a Big Ball of Mud. When software lacks boundaries, all its data ("state") sits in one massive, unprotected pile.

The Danger: A developer might fix a minor typo on the login screen, and it mysteriously crashes the entire payment system because the underlying code is completely tangled together.

So What is The Solution: Clean Architecture
Clean Architecture is simply moving out of the chaos and into a structured office building. Every department gets its own room and locked filing cabinets. If marketing needs financial data, they can no longer rummage through the pile themselves, they have to request it through an official, secure channel.

The audacity of ISPs to just increase price with no improvement to internet quality is bewildering to me. Weekly Unlimited Internet on Safari went from 600 to 750 to 900 Birr in just the past two months *insult*!

Professional Recommendation:

- For students and developers who want to build a strong foundation in software development, backend engineering, and full-stack development, Supabase is generally the better choice.

Why?

- PostgreSQL is widely used in industry.
- SQL is an essential skill for software engineers.
- Knowledge gained from Supabase transfers easily to other database systems.
- It provides a clearer understanding of how modern backend systems work.
- Firebase remains an excellent option for rapid development and mobile applications, but Supabase offers stronger long-term learning value.

πŸ’‘ A Lesson I Wish Every Developer Knew Earlier

Most developers spend hours searching YouTube or asking AI for answers. But the developers who grow the fastest know how to read the official documentation.
Documentation is always up to date.
Videos become outdated.
AI can make mistakes.
Documentation is the source of truth.
The sooner you become comfortable reading docs, the faster you'll become an independent developer.

πŸ“– "The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, for the ears of the wise seek it out." β€” Proverbs 18:15

πŸ’‘ Why Many Junior Developers Never Reach Their Potential

One thing I've noticed is that many junior developers don't quit because they aren't smart enoughβ€”they quit because they underestimate the journey.
They start a project with excitement. The first few days feel great. Then the bugs appear, the errors don't make sense, tutorials stop helping, and frustration begins to grow.
Instead of learning through the struggle, many abandon the project and jump to another one. The cycle repeats, but growth never happens.
Think about building a house.
No one expects a strong building to be completed in a day. It requires a clear plan, skilled workers, time, money, patience, and continuous effort. Every brick matters.
Software development deserves the same respect.
A good project requires investmentβ€”not just money, but also time, patience, consistency, discipline, and the willingness to learn from failure.
Don't judge your progress by how quickly you start a project. Judge it by how committed you are to finishing it.
The developers you admire today weren't built by easy projects. They were built by the projects they almost gave up onβ€”but didn't.

πŸ“– "Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." Galatians 6:9

Keep building|Keep learning| Finish what you start.

Come with an idea. Leave with a startup.

Cursor AI Hackathon Ethiopia is happening July 25–26 at Adwa Museum.

We’re partnering with Ministry of Innovation and Technology (MinT) and Ethio telecom to bring builders together for Ethiopia’s largest AI hackathon.

We're looking for idea-stage AI startups. Not polished products, not finished projects. Just a real problem, real users, and a team ready to build fast. If you've been sitting on an idea, this is the weekend to start it.

You'll have 20 hours to turn it into a working MVP, with credits and AI tools from Cursor and our AI credit sponsors: Addis AI, ElevenLabs, Fal, Whisperflow, and more. Food, mentors, and support are covered the whole time.

We're taking 60 teams. Have a team? Register with your team code. Coming alone? Tell us your skills and we'll match you into a team of 5, or fill your team's open spots.

Incubation partners will be in the room too, including MinT, the Addis Ababa University Startup Center, Gheero, and others, ready to back promising teams with mentorship, workspace, and follow-up. Investors will be there looking for ideas worth funding.

Before you apply, read the overview on the Luma page carefully.

Stop starting your projects from the frontend

as a full-stack dev: opening Figma or a UI library first, then trying to force your data and logic to fit the screens you already designed.

Flip it. Start with:
Your data model - what entities exist, how they relate
Your core logic/API - what the system actually does, independent of how it looks
Then the frontend - now it's just a window into something that already works

Why it matters:
β†’ You avoid redesigning your UI every time the backend logic changes
β†’ You catch broken assumptions early, before they're baked into components
β†’ Your API becomes reusable - mobile, web, admin panel, all pulling from the same solid core

The UI is the last mile, not the starting line. Build the engine before you build the dashboard.
Whatever your identity is right now, you only believe it because youhave proof of it.

Coding Agents are wasting your tokens and your time by rereading the same files and relationships everytime you prompt - the solution : Graphify.

I’ve been using Graphify for a while now, and it has become one of those tools I don’t want to code without. It gives AI coding agents a map of your codebase, so they don’t have to reread and rediscover the same files and relationships every time you send a prompt. That means less unnecessary context, fewer wasted tokens, and faster understanding of your project.
