Protestors apologized to a mistakenly vandalized grocery store, shop owner gladly accepted

(3 Oct) An 18-year-old male protester was shot by a police officer with a live bullet in Tsuen Wan on 1 Oct. The incident incited outrage from the public. For 3 consecutive days, protesters showed support to the nearly-killed victim in shopping malls and parks across various districts in Hong Kong.

At the night of 3 Oct, some protesters called for action to “liberate Sheung Shui, eliminate the Chinese parallel goods traders.”

Mr. Lee, the shop owner of a grocery store Lee Wah Kee, which is located at San Kung Street, Sheung Shui, said in an interview there were tens of protesters “poking” the surveillance cameras in front of his store. After his sister told the protesters that their costomers are local residents only, “the protesters apologized at once as they knew they mistaken the store they should have targeted, and some people even gave us money.” Some residents called to apologize for the protesters’ actions as well. Mr. Lee said that the protesters gave them HKD$1120 in total, and some even put down 100 Thai Baht.

Mr. Lee claimed that “the shop beside him sold baby formula to the Chinese parallel goods traders; it was difficult for people to distinguish the shops from the roll gates, and that was why the protesters were confused and targeted their store.” Mr. Lee responded that it was not a big deal, and he supported the demonstrations. Mr. Lee also pointed out that the problem of Chinese parallel good traders was very serious. Small shops could not continue with their business because of the high rent, and the variety of shops has become very imbalanced. “There are ample of Chinese parallel goods traders who have adversely affected our normal lives, but the Hong Kong government has never listened or paid attention.”
In Mr. Lee’s opinion, there have been demonstrations because “the government could not solve the problems.”

Pro-CCP Supporter Destroyed the Grave of Former Peking University Head in Hong Kong

A Chinese leftist admitted on Weibo that he destroyed the grave of Cai Yuanpei, the late president of Peking University, in Hong Kong.

As the president of Peking University, Cai pioneered the May Fourth Movement in China in 1919 and was famous of protecting the students. He passed away in 1940 in Hong Kong and was buried in Hong Kong Aberdeen Chinese Permanent Cemetery.

On November 14, the Weibo user, “Ai Ji Wu Lei,” wrote that he went to Hong Kong to “polish” Cai’s tombstone and post the pictures of Wang Shouhua and Zhao Shiyan, who are both early Chinese Communist Party members, on the grave.

The Weibo user also wrote earlier, “it doesn’t matter if they are Rocky Tuan [current head of the Chinese University of Hong Kong] or Cai Yuanpei, they do not always represent social justice under their gentlemanlike appearance.” He also described Hong Kong students in the pro-democracy movement as “useless youth” and claimed, “one can tell how ignorant they are by looking at these useless youth’ slogans.”

Facebook pages, including “Cemetery Study,” condemned this Weibo user for his act of vandalism, which has sabbotaged the inscriptions by Yeh Kung-Ch’o, the Transportation Minister of Beiyang government. According to the Facebook page, Cai’s grave is currently covered by the Hong Kong SAR Government and therefore it cannot be confirmed if the tombstone can be restored.

Pro-China Supporters Vandalized Commemorative Cross on the Hill of Crosses in Lithuania

Recently, a commemorative cross of an ancestor on the Hill of Crosses in Lithuania was discovered to have been written with the words "May Roachcock (the original wording included the word "cockroach" in Chinese, with its two characters reversed) rest in peace! May Hong Kong be restored to peace soon", which was suspected to be written by pro-China supporters.

The Hill of Crosses commemorates the history of the resistance and endurance of the Lithuanian people. Expressing hatred towards the protesters at this place is a blatant act of disrespecting history and the spirit of resistance. During the German occupation of Lithuania during World War II, concentration camps were built in Lithuania to slaughter Jews, writing the word “cockroach” here is an act of disrespect against Humanism and universal values.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Linas Linkevičius, wrote on Twitter on #Dec29 regarding the vandalism of the Hill of Crosses by Chinese patriots. She stated that such shameful acts would not be tolerated, and that Lithuanian officials were investigating the case thoroughly.

Editor's note: At the Hill of Crosses in Lithuania, visitors can purchase crosses of different sizes to write and display. However, the erected crosses cannot be destroyed or removed and re-erected.
