As tensions continue to mount between China and India, the Indian government set up an expert committee on Wednesday, to investigate the alleged collection of personal data by Chinese firm Zhenhua Data and asked the Chinese ambassador to India to participate.
The Indian Express, a local media outlet, revealed that Shenzhen Zhenhua Data Information Technology Co (ZDIT) had collected the personal data of over ten thousand Indian politicians and celebrities to build a database in preparation for a "hybrid warfare" with India. The newspaper also quoted the External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar as saying in a written response that the government has appointed the Chief Commissioner for Cyber Security, retired Army Lieutenant General Rajesh Pant, to head an expert committee. The committee will investigate and assess whether ZDIT was involved in any illegal activities and the implications thereof. The committee will submit its recommendations and report to the government within 30 days.
ZDIT, the company under investigation, was suspected of links with the Chinese government and the Chinese Communist Party. Jaishankar stressed that the Indian government took the protection of Indian citizens’ privacy and personal data very seriously. The Chinese ambassador to India Sun Weidong has said India’s limitations on Chinese businesses and investments were not benefitting anyone. He added that any action that heightened and complicated the tension was no solution and that engaging in dialogue was the right way and the way out. The more difficult the situation was, he said, the more crucial it was to have stability and mutual trust.
Hosting a video conference celebrating China’s national day and the Mid-Autumn festival with representatives of Chinese expats in India, Sun discussed the recent status of China-India relations. He said it was vital for the two countries to move forward in the right direction under the current circumstances. Being two major developing countries, he said, China and India should focus on such challenges as beating the pandemic, economic recovery, and improving livelihoods. He said what the two countries needed was collaboration and not confrontation, mutual trust and not mutual suspicion. He said it was normal for China and India, being neighbours, to have differences, but arguments should come in the right place in their relations and must not be allowed to get in the way.

As the Republic of China’s national day (10 October) approached, a number of Indian media outlets ran advertisements celebrating the occasion and published related reports. To the annoyance of the local community, the Chinese embassy in India issued a letter warning that Indian media must follow the ‘one China’ principle. Indian netizens responded by congratulating Taiwan on social media with some media outlets saying they would produce special reports on the occasion. Taiwan’s Central News Agency (CNA) reported that the ruling party BJP’s Delhi spokesperson Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga posted 100 posters saying “Happy National Day” to Taiwan outside the Chinese embassy late at night on 9 October. Baga said it was to let China know that both India and Taiwan are free countries and not subject to authoritarian oppression.
According to the report, a group led by Bagga went to the embassy district late at night and posted 100 posters showing the Republic of China’s flag and the slogan “Happy National Day, Taiwan” on every lamppost in front of the Chinese embassy. Bagga told the CNA that he knew the Chinese embassy had issued a letter to Indian media to wag its finger. In protest against China’s attempt to undermine India’s democracy and freedom, he ordered 100 flags celebrating Taiwan’s national day. “The action last night,” he said, “was to teach China a lesson about democracy.”
The report also said that Bagga had particpated in a university exchange program in 2018 and spent 20 days in Taiwan, which left a good impression on him for being in stark contrast to China. The article pointed out that on the eve of Taiwan’s National Day, the Chinese Embassy in India sent many Indian media agencies “suggestions” requesting them to report in compliance with the "Indian government's position on the Taiwan issue" and not to violate the One-China principle. The move incurred the enmity of the Indian press. India’s Ministry of External Affairs replied in a statement emphasising that Indian media may freely report on any topic as they please.
The editorial stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Delhi spokesperson Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga hung up posters celebrating Double Ten Day outside the Chinese Embassy in India, and was met by the disparagement of the Embassy. The posters were subsequently removed because they “have not been authorised yet”. An independent journalist Aditya Raj Kaul uploaded a letter sent by the Chinese Embassy in India to various media on his Twitter. The embassy reiterated the One-China Principle in the letter that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China and has become an international consensus. All the countries and Indian media should abide by related policies and perspectives and should not violate the principle. “Taiwan should not be considered as a 'country', or described as 'Republic of China', or described Taiwan leader as 'president'" called the media should not send the wrong message to the public. Other than uploading the letter, Kaul also questioned whether this is an indirect threat to Indian media that reported on Taiwan?

Wuhan Virus Pandemic broke out in Wuhan last year in late December. The total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases is approaching 62 million across the world so far.
China has been claiming in recent month that the source of the pandemic may be from the United States, France or even Italy, denying the allegation of 'Wuhan Virus originates in China'. Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences publishes a report through Social Science Research Network (SSRN), indicating that the Wuhan Virus "probably" comes from India and Bangladesh, transmitted from monkeys to human, and discovered in Wuhan after half a year. However, the report has not undergone any peer review and, therefore, cannot be considered as a rigorous academic finding.
Mike Ryan, an Epidemiologists at the WHO, said on 27 November, 2020 that it is "highly speculative" to say the coronavirus not emerged from China.
