PRC Nationals on Princess Diamond Cruise to Be Evacuated With Hong Kong Citizens to Hong Kong

PRC nationals on the Diamond Princess Cruise, currently docked in Yokohama, Japan, will be evacuated with Hong Kong citizens on the charter flights provided by Cathay Pacific arranged by the Hong Kong government. In other words, PRC nationals who were passengers of the Princess Cruise will not be sent back to Mainland China, but will enter Hong Kong with other Hong Kong citizens on board.

The latest arrangement, which has never been disclosed by the government and instead released by the PRC Embassy in Japan, further dismayed the local population in Hong Kong, in addition to the fear of community outbreak, supply shortages of medical protective equipment, and the lack of transparency of the Hong Kong as well as the PRC governments.

The first charter flight will take off on Feb 20 at 01:45 in Japan. As of Feb 19, there are 621 confirmed cases of Wuhan pneumonia on the cruise.

Although the flights would be provided by Cathay Pacific and the evacuation plan was carried out by the Hong Kong goverment, Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam openly reiterated her appreciation to the PRC Embassy in Japan for arranging coaches to transport the passengers to the airport in Tokyo.

Despite many countries having issued ban to prohibit PRC nationals from entering, the Hong Kong government had insisted to leave the borders between Hong Kong and China open.

Chinese Embassies in the world stop passport renewal and issuing new passports

Image 1:
My friend's Chinese passport will expire the second half of this year. He went to the Chinese embassy to renew the passport in March but the embassy kept postponing the appointment date. My friend got a notification in April for appointment then got change to July. He called today and was informed that the passport can't be renewed because the factory in China stopped the passport production. The Chinese embassy recommended him to go back to China first.

This is the third case that Chinese embassy rejected a renewal passport application. This round of locking down of China is coming violently and rapidly.

Image 2:
A Chinese embassy in Tokyo also refused to issue new passports.

Image 3:
This is what overseas Uyghurs have experienced all these years. No passports is issued to them, they are only given travel permits, and have to go back to China to get passports. And once they go back to China for passports, they are sent to concentration camps. At that time when the Uyghurs came out and shouted such policy was unfair, many Chinese didn’t believe it. Now it’s good, every person, one by one, is entering Xinjiang mode. It seems it won’t be too long to see concentration camps in places other than Xinjiang in mainland China!

1Malaysia Development Berhad Fraud Case – Malaysian Police Insists Low Taek Jho Hiding in Macau

The Inspector-General of Police of the Royal Malaysia Police (#PDRM) Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador recently stated that the mastermind behind the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (#1MDB) fraud case and wealthy Chinese businessman Low Taek Jho was hiding in Macau.

PDRM accused Chinese law enforcement agencies of providing asylum to him and causing many obstructions in the extradition process. The Chinese Embassy in Malaysia and the Macau Government subsequently denied the claims. The Office of the Secretary for Security of Macau issued a statement saying that PDRM unilaterally claimed that Low was in Macau and that it was inconsistent with the facts.

Abdul Hamid pointed out that "the Macau police should take this matter seriously"

According to foreign news reports on Aug 7, Abdul Hamid reiterated that Low was hiding in Macau. Speaking about requesting the foreign police to arrest a criminal, he asked, "Did we do anything wrong? If they asked for our cooperation, we would also assist." He believed that it should be in the “nature” of police to bring criminals to justice. He emphasized that this is a crime involving RM50 billion, not a political feud.

Abdul Hami pointed out, "Low has developed business in Macau with almost no constraints. His family is there. Is it really that difficult to investigate into their whereabouts?" He said that since PDRM has submitted an Interpol red alert calling for police everywhere to assist in tracing Low’s whereabouts, “Macau police should take this matter seriously and uphold a spirit of mutual assistance, instead of shirking responsibilities."

The World Against China - Chinese Embassy Instructs Indian Media to Follow One-china Principle, Indian Media Responds “India Is Free” in Editorial

Previously, the Chinese Embassy in India instructed Indian media to follow the One-China principle when reporting on Taiwan and Double Ten celebrations and was met with much dissent. Hindustan Times published an editorial on Monday reminding China that it should not consider putting pressure on media in democratic India and calling on China to change its behaviours.

The Hindustan Times editorial on Monday was entitled “A reminder for China: India is free”. The article pointed out that on the eve of Taiwan’s National Day, the Chinese Embassy in India sent many Indian media agencies “suggestions” requesting them to report in compliance with the "Indian government's position on the Taiwan issue" and not to violate the One-China principle. The move incurred the enmity of the Indian press. India’s Ministry of External Affairs replied in a statement emphasising that Indian media may freely report on any topic as they please.

The editorial stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Delhi spokesperson Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga hung up posters celebrating Double Ten Day outside the Chinese Embassy in India, and was met by the disparagement of the Embassy. The posters were subsequently removed because they “have not been authorised yet”. The incident reflected the undemocratic nature of the Chinese Embassy, consistent with the nature of CCP’s dictatorship. Nevertheless, “India is a proud democratic country with free and vibrant media, as well as transparent and healthy foreign policy debates.”

British Muslim Community Raises Concerns over Relocation of Chinese Embassy into One of the Most Highly Muslim-Populated Area in UK

Concerns from local residents and councillors of Tower Hamlets is raised over China’s decision to move its embassy in London from the West End to Tower Hamlets. With the highest percentage of Muslim residents in the UK, the Tower Hamlets community has expressed their unwelcoming of the embassy unless China stops abusing the Muslims in the Xinjiang region.

The new Chinese Embassy in UK will relocate to the site of the historic Royal Mint, which is located in the peripheral area of Tower Hamlets.  Just steps away from the original Chinatown in the 19th century, the location holds historical significance to China.  However, it is also home to one of the largest British Muslim communities, with about 40% of its residents belonging to the Islamic faith, in addition to being one of the lowest income neighbourhoods.

Even though the move will not be completed until a few years later, opposition within the Tower Hamlets community is growing stronger by the day as reports on China’s cruel abuses towards the Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang are being exposed.  According to the US State Department, China has imprisoned over 2 million Muslims of Uyghur and other minorities, subjecting them to forced labour while their women are sexually mutilated and even violated.  Residents of Tower Hamlets have voiced their objection, stating that unless China put these inhuman actions to a stop, the embassy is not welcome to move into their area.

Australian Prime Minister Ignored Criticism from China, Refusing the Amend the Policy “Australia is Australia”

The spokesperson of Chinese Foreign Ministry Zhao Lijian listed out the “China-related wrongdoings” in the regular press conference on Tuesday, requesting Australia to reflect seriously. On the same day, an anonymous Chinese Official directly pointed out in an Australian media interview that the Chinese government is angry at Australia, and even provided a document from the Chinese Embassy in Australia with 14 dissatisfied “anti-China actions” by the Australian government to China. Scott Morrison, the Australia Prime Minister, said in a response on Thursday that Australia would defend their interest and would not change their usual policies. “Australia is Australia.”

Morrison said in response regarding the complaints from the Chinese Embassy in Australia on Thursday that Australia would defend their own interest and would not change their usual policies, including press freedom, elected members enabling them to express their views, as well as standing up for human rights. “If these are the reasons for the tense relationship between our two countries, it seems to be because Australia is Australia only.” He emphasised, “we will not compromise, rather, we will propose Foreign Investment Law, set up 5G network, or prevent the interference of our system.”

Twitter blocks account of the China Embassy in the U.S., accusing Xinjiang posts of violating user rules.

On Thursday (21), Twitter had blocked the Chinese Embassy’s account in the U.S. for a post that it said violated the company’s user code against “dehumanisation” by defending the Xinjiang region.

In a post this month, the Chinese Embassy in the United States said that Uighur women in Xinjiang had been “liberated” and that “gender equality has improved” under the Xinjiang policy, citing a report in China Daily, a newspaper sponsored by the Communist Party’s Central Propaganda Department, that women there were no longer reproductive machines and could be more independent. That post was deleted by Twitter and labelled “not existed anymore”. The post has been removed from Twitter and tagged as no longer existing. While Twitter automatically hides posts that violate its policies, it requires account owners to manually delete such posts. No new posts have been posted to the Chinese Embassy’s account since January 9 of this year.

In response to media inquiries on Thursday, a Twitter spokesperson said Twitter took action against the account for violating the user policy, stating, “We prohibit dehumanisation based on religion, caste, age, disability, serious illness, national origin or race.”

Twitter Deletes Post by Chinese Embassy Saying Uyghur Women Have Been “Liberated”

A tweet by the Chinese Embassy in US saying Uyghur women had been “liberated” under Beijing’s administration has been taken down by Twitter. Claiming that “progress has been made in terms of gender equality” under Beijing’s Xinjiang policy, the tweet came with an article by the Chinese state media saying that women in the region are no longer birth-giving machines and enjoy greater independence. A day after the tweet was deleted, the embassy shared a post by China’s foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying containing the same article.

The BBC reported that the embassy posted on January 7 a tweet praising Beijing’s Xinjiang policy for “liberating the minds” of Uyghur women and females of other ethnic minorities and bringing the community closer to gender equality. The tweet came with a China Daily article titled “Women Are Having Greater Autonomy Thanks to the Defeat of Extremism, Says Research”, which claims that studies have shown a decrease in birth rate and a slowdown in natural population growth in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region following the elimination of religious extremism. Being no longer discouraged from planned parenthood by religious extremism, the article claims, local women are no longer treated as birth-giving machine and have become more confident and independent. The article takes on Western scholars and politicians that are critical of the changes for being the result of forced sterilization by the state, saying that the accusations are completely false and that family planning policy in the region is completely legal.

The tweet and the article provoked outrage on the Internet, where the Chinese authorities were slammed for lying. Critcs said the tweet proves exactly that Uyghur women have been subjected to forced sterilization. Twitter has since deleted the post, stating that it was against the platform’s rules. No further explanation was given for its move to take down the tweet.

Tiananmen Square, Uyghur Court: Tower Hamlets plans name changes in solidarity

The Chinese embassy is to be relocated to the East End of London, Tower Hamlets.

The councillors said they welcomed the relocation of the embassy from the West End but “we must continue to make clear where our own standards and principles apply”.

The motion which proposed to rename roads and buildings in the surrounding area of the site Tiananmen Square, Uyghur Court, Hong Kong Road and Tibet Hill was passed. This showed “support for the freedom and diversity of our borough”.

The repression of Uighur Muslims is particularly sensitive for Tower Hamlets, which has the highest proportion of Muslim residents (38%) of any borough.

Former Turkish PM joins Netizens in Condemning China for Suppressing the #Ugyhurs

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between #Turkey and the #PRC, the #ChineseEmbassy in Turkey co-organised a drawing competition with the Ministry of National Education, Turkey for Turkish youth, titled “China in My Dreams.”

Taking note of the event, many netizens uploaded pictures of Uyghur genocide with the hashtag #hayalimdekiçin (“China in My Dreams”), among which even include former Prime Minister #AhmetDavutoğlu.

These works include blue-shirted men sitting under the iron curtains of #Xinjiang concentration camps; a #Uyghur little girl silenced by men covered in a Five-starred red flag and a bloodied East Turkestan flag; a lonely boy crying on #EidMubarak as his family was locked up in the #Gulags.

Long-time friend of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and former Prime Minister, Ahmet Davutoğlu, also uploaded a picture on Twitter.

He writes, “The Education Ministry is organising a painting competition titled “China in My Dreams” for our kids. Our dream is East Turkistan. Dear children, picture the dream of saving our brothers and sisters in our fatherland from oppression and send that to this competition. Speak up to those who doesn’t wish to hear!”

#ReportersWithoutBorders protests #AppleDaily closure at Chinese embassies in Paris and Berlin

The press freedom advocacy group Reporters Without Borders (#RSF) marched through the streets of Paris and Berlin on June 25, 2021.

They protested the closure of the Hong Kong's pro-democracy newspaper Apple Daily, after Hong Kong's Beijing-backed authorities froze the paper's assets and arrested several executives.

The NGO said on their website that they held "funeral-style processions" to denounce the "killing" of Apple Daily by the Hong Kong government, and to "raise alarm of the threats" posed by the Beijing regime to press freedom globally.

In Paris, RSF placed a coffin and funeral flowers for the Hong Kong paper in front of the #ChineseEmbassy. At the same time, they buried copies of the newspaper in front of the embassy in Berlin.

RSF Secretary-General Christophe Deloire said, "today's funeral is for Apple Daily, but tomorrow's may be for press freedom in China. It's time for the international community to act in line with their own values and obligations and defend what's left of the ,free press in Hong Kong before China's model of information control claims another victim."

#ChineseEmbassy complaints about ‘ugly’ photos at #TokyoOlympics

A complaint from a Chinese embassy about a western news wire’s “ugly” choice of an Olympic weightlifting photo backfired on July 26, 2021 after it emerged that a state-backed outlet used a similar image.

The Chinese embassy in Sri Lanka tweeted

“Among all the photos of the game, Reuters has chosen this one, which only shows how ugly they are.”

https://twitter.com/chinaembsl/status/14188363586432

Reuters used a photo of Chinese weightlifting gold winner Hou Zhihui straining to lift a barbell. However, state-run Xinhua, Sina and China Daily also ran similar images of Hou, though the latter replaced theirs.

A Chinese netizen on Sina Weibo claimed western media were “evil” and “not respecting Hou at all,” according to state-backed Global Times.

#UK City Council Proposes to Rename as "Hong Kong Square" and "Tibet Hill" around the #ChineseEmbassy

The Chinese Embassy in the UK will move to the Tower Hamlets district in East London. Its city council is investigating to name "Hong Kong Square", "Uyghur Court" and "Tibet Hill" around the new site.

Some Hongkongers, Tibetans and Uyghurs host an assembly on September 14, 2021, calling to confirm the rename.

#PeterGolds, a Conservative party leader in the city council, indicates that minimising the effects on the residential and commercial addresses is one of the difficulties of renaming streets. Nevertheless, a road is known to be suitable for renaming in front of the Embassy new site, and Golds says, "everyone entering the new Chinese Embassy has to pass through it".

The Chinese Embassy in the UK was planned to relocate to the original site of #TheRoyalMint in 2018, which is in Tower Hamlets, London. On the Handover Ceremony of the Royal Mint in 2018, #LiuXiaoming, the Chinese Ambassador back then, stated the Embassy would be a new landmark in London. And #JohnBiggs, the mayor back then, indicates the move-in of the Chinese Embassy demonstrates an "open and energetic living and working place".

The Tower Hamlets City Council unanimously agreed with the research on renaming the streets and the new buildings around the Chinese Embassy new site in a general meeting in March 2021.

Having the names of "Hong Kong Square", "Uyghur Court", "Tibet Hill" and "Xiaobo Road" shows the city is with these places and people.

A hundred people called on the name change implementation.

A hundred Hongkongers, Uyghurs, Tibetans, and the local whites protest outside the Embassy new site today, calling for the implementation of the name changes. The event is hosted by the Hong Kong Liberty, Power to Hongkongers, Free Tibet, Stop Uyghur Genocide and other organisations.

A leaflet, written with "Tower Hamlets: Give Us a Sign You Care" slogan and "Tibet Hill", "Hong Kong Square" and "Uyghur Court".

#FinnLau, who is wanted by the Hong Kong Police and is exiled to the UK, states his opposition to the relocation of the Chinese Embassy at the assembly. "We need to stop the #CCP rebuilding a British heritage with 600 years of history to become a palace to serve an authoritarian regime."

Conservative Party leader in the City Council Peter Golds says that he empathises with Hongkongers', Uyghurs' and other people's situation as he does not have British ancestry that his parents are from Poland and Lithuania and moved to the UK to get rid of suppression. He says that trying hard to change the street is because "the CCP needs to take responsibility for their actions". He also criticises the CCP for violating the promise of "One Country Two Systems" to Hong Kong.

The Conservative Party leader in the City Council said a location is suitable to change its name.

Peter Golds explains that one of the most challenging parts of the project is that changing street names will affect the registration addresses for the local residents and commercials. Nevertheless, he said that a street in front of the Embassy belongs to Tower Hamlets district and does not have anyone living in or any enterprise operating. "We can place a road sign here, such as 'London Borough of Tower Hamlet, Hong Kong Square', that everyone will walk past here to enter the Chinese Embassy."

He also mentions that the actual chance of changing the name depends on the wishes of the city council, "but many of us want to do it". He indicates that he will not be afraid of counteraction from China. "What can they do to me? I am only a mayor. I serve my electorates, not the CCP. But I understand the fear of Hongkongers with my emphasis."
