On Sunday, Feb 28, 2021 in Hong Kong, Lester Shum accompanied by his newly wedded wife arrived to report to the Police Station, as ordered by the Hong Kong police two days on Feb 26.

Shum was among the 55 pro-democracy activists arrested by the police on Jan 5, 2021. They were accused of "subverting state powers" and hence breaching the #NationalSecurityLaw for involving in a primary election within the pro-democracy camp.

Before the 27-year-old district councillor and pro-democracy activist walked into the police station, he spoke to the media in Cantonese and English.

"I have a few words for Hongkongers: We've made this decision in 2019 [Anti-ELAB movement]. There is no turning back in history. Once we've made up our minds, we will walk on this path and see it to the end."

"In face of the worsening situation, I want to tell Hongkongers, in Hong Kong or abroad, that we've decided to not surrender to the authoritarian regime since 2019. I hope we can all carry this in our heart and continue with this road despite the adversities we face."
