Residents of Hiu Lai Court Demanded Re-election of OC

The current chairman of the owners corporation of Hiu Lai Court is Ann So, a former Kwun Tong District Council member and former member of the Supervisory Commission. Some Hui Lai Court residents were dissatisfied with the low transparency of the corporation.

Earlier, more than 10% of the owners’ signatures were collected and they requested reform of the corporation. So, however, did not hold the special meeting of owners within 14 days.

Last night more than 100 residents surrounded So and demanded an immediate meeting.

Solar power supply chain could be tainted with Uyghur forced labour, report says

According to a new report, solar panels might have a dark side: almost half of the production of a key part of solar panels come from Xinjiang, China — a region of China which activists have flagged as rife with the widespread internment and forced labour of Uyghurs.

Almost all solar panels rely on one primary material — solar-grade polysilicon — and approximately 45 per cent of the world’s supply comes from Xinjiang, according to the report from the Sheffield Hallam university’s Helena Kennedy Centre for International Justice in the United Kingdom.

Army of fake fans boots China’s message on Twitter

China’s ruling Communist Party has opened a new front in its long, ambitious war to shape global public opinion: Western social media.

Liu Xiaoming, who recently stepped down as China’s ambassador to the United Kingdom, is one of the party’s most successful foot soldiers on this evolving online battlefield. He joined Twitter in October 2019, as scores of Chinese diplomats surged onto Twitter and Facebook, which are both banned in China.

HK Government suspected of un-shelving another 16 books involving topics of #CivilDisobedience and #Protests in #PublicLibrary

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (#LCSD) of the Hong Kong Government is suspected of un-shelving 16 books from public libraries.

These include:

- The writings of pro-democracy activist and former law professor Benny Tai;

- Reverend Chu Yiu-ming's “Civil Disobedience and the Occupation of Central: Reflections on the Faith of Christians in Hong Kong” (公民抗命與佔領中環:香港基督徒的信仰省思);

- “To All of Those Who Have Worn Black Before” (給穿過黑衣的人) by Scholarism;

- Former legislator Raymond Wong Yuk-man’s book “I Wouldn’t Have Argued If I Did’t Have To” (予豈好辯哉).

In addition, the two issues of “#Breakazine!” about the Anti-Extradition Law (#AntiELAB) Protest, are also removed.

These 16 books were all published before the #NationalSecurityLaw came into effect, yet they are no longer available on the public library website.

So far, the government has removed at least 34 books in total.

Pro-democracy Group Displays Black Cloth to Mourn the Loss of Freedom in Hong Kong

On May 29, 2022 in Hong Kong, the League of Social Justice, a pro-democracy group, organized a street booth in Causeway Bay. It was eve of the 33th anniversary of the 1989 #TiananmenMassacre.

Despite political suppression, the group displayed a black cloth, mourning the loss of the freedom of expression in Hong Kong.

The chairperson #ChanPoYing revealed that they originally prepared a banner that read "release all the political prisoners" and "power to the people".

However, one day ago, a pro-democracy radio station was fined by the authorities for "displaying unauthorized slogans". This made the League of Social Justice showcase only a black cloth.

Chan said the message was clear to every Hongkongers, "we never forget, never give up."

Althea Suen: I never regret fighting for freedom, justice, and democracy

Former #HKUSU president, Althea Suen (#SuenHiuNam), pleaded guilty before trial. She admitted to being weak and powerless in her FaceBook post because she could not stand a predictably long sentence. She felt sorry and sad for not being able to show different perspectives of protesters in the 71 LegCo case, and she "cowardly accept libels and lies from the authority".

She said she will take care of herself in prison, "I never regret fighting for freedom, justice and democracy from the beginning. In 2023, I am in Hong Kong, trapped in prison, but my mind remains free".
