Exercise your right to vote! Register as a voter NOW!

Why?
Currently, the pro-Beijing camp dominates the legislature and the consequences are grave.

1. Every bill in the interest of China was supported without considering Hong Kong people, such. Examples include the extradition bill and the anti-subversion law "article 23".

2. The pro-Beijing camp and the Establishment cover up for one another and go against universal values. For example, they ignored public opinion and rejected the pro-democracy camp's proposal to impreach Carrie Lam.

3. The Improper use of tax-payers' money, as in over- budget infrastructure projects, such as Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, Lantau Tomorrow Vision. The latest controversy involved the council passing a budget plan of HKD 27 billion to the police force to upgrade their weapons.

Around Wellington

Photo album: https://t.me/guardiansofhongkong/19383

We have chosen a restaurant which mainly offers take-away in Central, and you can find a variety of dishes here. Many chain stores struggle to continue their operation under the coronavirus containment measures, but, this, instead, makes Hong Kongers to notice other small restaurants that used to be ignored. The exterior of those restaurants may not be splendid and they may not have many seats. However, you can feel the effort they paid and the friendliness of waiters.

The exterior of Around Wellington is not big, but is covered almost every inch by various pro-democracy flyers and posters. There are only 2-3 small tables inside the restaurant. During lunch time, there is always a long queue outside. People standing outside will already be attracted by all kinds of aromas of food, the rich and mellow flavour of Drunken Chicken with Shaoxing Wine Udon, as well as the meaty flavour of Wagyu Cheeseburger. Kourayaki of the restaurant has a lot of crab roe and meat, it tastes even better if you mix the rice with crab paste.

Central is a place that has experienced countless “Lunch With You” rallies. It is also the place that office workers in suits experienced tear gas for the first time. Nowadays, police brutality is rampant in Hong Kong. The reasons that make Hong Kong still standing up in Asia are not only the financial benefits of the Hang Seng Index that people concern about, but also, more importantly, the social value which is our conscience.

Around Wellington

Around Wellington

#WHO Chief accuses #Taiwan of orchestrating racist attack

The World Health Organization chief Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus condemned the politicisation of Covid-19, claiming he has received death threats and racist insults during the coronavirus pandemic.

He pointed fingers at Taiwan for spearheading the insults at him. “Three months ago, this attack came from Taiwan.” “And Taiwan, the Foreign Ministry know the campaign.” “They didn’t disassociate themselves and even started criticizing me in the middle of all that insult and slur.”

Taiwan dismissed Tedros’ comments as “baseless”. Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen invited Tedros to visit Taiwan and stressed that “Taiwan has always opposed all forms of discrimination.” The Ministry of Foreign Affairs demands Tedros to correct his claims and apologize to the people of Taiwan.

China's foreign ministry commented that it hopes Taiwan "will not politicize the pandemic or engage in any political maneuvering.”

Hong Kong Government: Episode Has Violated the "One China" Principle;
RTHK Reporter: Episode Only Discusses Global Anti-pandemic Effort

Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Edward Yau Tang-wah reiterated after attending a special meeting of the Finance Committee that The Pulse, an news programme produced by the public broadcaster RTHK, violated the "One China" principle, although the violation did not stem from individual interviews or angles.

In response to Yau's ambivalent accusation, Yvonne Tong, a producer and the host of the said programme in RTHK, stated on Twitter that The Pulse had only focused on the global anti-pandemic effort during said episode. Yau's comment caused her to wonder how the episode could violate the "One China" principle, calling into question whether or not Yau have seen the episode.

WHO should be renamed to CHO, saids the deputy prime minister of Japan

(2 Apr) The deputy prime minister of Japan, Taro Aso, slammed the World Health Organization(WHO), saying it should be called the China Health Organization (CHO) for its soft stance towards the communist China amid the outbreak of the coronavirus.

He emphazied that if the WHO had not insisted to the world that China had no epidemic, then everybody would have taken precautions.

Aso also critized that being as a global organisation, the WHO did not even include Taiwan. And precisely because Taiwan is not a member of the WHO, it becomes a world leader in fighting the epidemic.

Apologize for saying the term “Wuhan Pneumonia”

[fwd] A Chinese overseas student in New Zealand was slammed by purely mentioning the term “Wuhan pneumonia” in a WeChat group. Friends argued that Wuhan sacrificed a lot… But isn’t the virus originated in Wuhan? Why must he apologise?

Image content:
Leo:
At the same time, please don’t forget the Americans, Italians, Spanish, and all other foreigners who died from Wuhan pneumonia
Gumgum:
Are you still having to call it Wuhan pneumonia?
Leo:
COVID 19 then
Yuay:
COVID 19
Gumgum:
I even thought for a moment whether you were being sarcastic or not
Tracy:
Leo, what do you mean by everyone who died from Wuhan pneumonia? Are you being ambiguous? There is an official name for it, what’s wrong with you? You’re poisoned
Wilson:
Leo, please apologise
Chuanwei:
“Leo: COVID 19 then” This sounds quite insincere. Please explain.
Alex:
As someone from Wuhan, things have been miserable in Wuhan this year. The words ‘Wuhan pneumonia’ sound especially harsh to me
Aoda:
Wuhan really sacrificed a lot
Frankie:
How long has be been out of touch with the society?
Tracy:
Alex, same
Chunqiu:
Ya, the news have been saying covid 19 everyday. How can those words still come out of your brain
Wilson:
You got to be responsible for what you said. If you don’t apologise, everyone will be watching you
Tracy:
I’m from Wuhan as well, but not because I need to voice out for Wuhan. This incident is like how Trump said ‘Chinese Virus’, no one can tolerate that. The virus has a name, covid 19, what’s your purpose for calling it Wuhan pneumonia?
Frankie:
+1 Maybe to him, the air’s fresher and the moon’s brighter abroad
Frankie:
Just one sentence, then… that’s brilliant
Wilson:
If he doesn’t apologise today, no one is allowed to change the subject
Kaixu:
Calm down, come out and explain. The 490 of us should all tag him.
Frankie:
Just kick him out
Elva:
For people who say ‘Wuhan pneumonia’ and ‘Chinese virus’, I’m curious about what they’re thinking, especially when they’re Chinese

60% of Mask Factories in China Never Sterilized

Since the Wuhan pneumonia outbreak, the Chinese Communist Party government has been encouraging Chinese companies to produce masks. Industries such as textile, retail and food have answered to the call by either buying or expanding their production line of facemask.

Chinese media points out that during the lockdown of Wuhan between 23 Jan and 11 Mar, 5489 mask factories have been set up in China. According to the Chinese government in early March, China is producing over one hundred million masks per day.

However, mask retailers revealed that the mask factories are poorly managed and monitored: 60% of these factories do not undergo sterilization. Most factories started to run as soon as the mask machines arrived, even when the working environment was dusty. Masks were manufactured by workers without gloves nor masks. The certificates for factory registration can be bought and shared between factories.
