The Difference between Hong Kong and China: How people treat September 11
Freestyle Football Player Disqualified by Sport Committee 2
Chun-Yin Lai, the 22-year-old football player was planned to represent Hong Kong at the 2019 China & Asia Pacific Freestyle Football Championships. He was participating in the “China Championships” and “Asia-Pacific Region Battle” before being disqualified.
Lai used correction fluid to write “Free HK” on his pair of vans in protest against Vans decision to disqualified the “Naomiso-design” and uploaded the photo to his personal account in Instagram. Another football player, Lyson Sze, was informed by the organizing committee that Lai had received an anonymous complained. Mr. Sze was worried that it would complicate the competition and pressure Lai to quit the tournament or he would be disqualified.
Lai was disqualified in the World Freestyle Football Championship 2 years ago after he talked about his identity as a Hongkonger (people of Hong Kong) during an interview with BBC. Lai told “SportsRoad” that “being disqualified is not helping the situation. It is so ridiculous to link "being proud to be a 'Hongkonger' as a supporter of “Hong Kong Independence. This is wrong to threatened or disqualify me because of the “Free HK” photo". He would be extremely regretful if he was disqualified, “Freestyle Football is an international sports without discrimination of race nor nationality, I believe each of us has the right to enjoy equity and freedom, which it what I have been pursuing, I will not change my stance for participating in any kind of tournament with self-censorship”

Lyson Sze also expressed his concern, “What will be the meaning for winning if our freedom of speech and the will of protecting Hong Kong is erased?” He had emailed the International Freestyle Football Association about the incident and demanded them to clarify the reason of disqualifying Lai. He has explicitly asked if it was the shoes problem? Would he be qualified again if the photo is deleted? Was this a political censorship?

(*Lai had received the notification of being disqualified*)

Dignity and Privacy Eroded by Police

(14 Oct) The Hong Kong Police have been criticized that during the anti-government movement in this protest. Not only they have breached the privacy of patients, they have also disturbed the work of healthcare workers in public hospitals. Earlier this month there was a male police entering the antenatal labour ward in Tuen Mun Hospital. Dr. Chung Yee Ma, the chairperson of the Hong Kong Public Doctors' Association, another incident that a female police refused to leave the room when doctor needed to check an arrested woman's sensitive area, though the police is female. The police eventually left the room after the healthcare worker insisting on patient's privacy.

Dr Ma further mentions that even if the police are of the same gender, they should protect patients privacy like standing behind the curtains. Unfortunately nowadays the police officers often neglect patients rights and dignity.

So far, Dr. Simon Yiu-hang Tang, the Cluster Chief Executive of the New Territories West Cluster, has sent another letter in regards to the incident of male police entering the antenatal labour ward to all healthcare workers, only claiming that the work on that day was not affected and there were only medical workers when the pregnant woman was having body check. Some healthcare workers in Tuen Mun Hospital excoriate that the letter does not explain why a male police enters the ward while there were female police at the same time. Furthermore, many healthcare workers now believe the Hospital Authority of Hong Kong should denounce such act from the police.

Starting December 1st, China’s new MLPS 2.0 cybersecurity laws will require a submission of facial scan to receive internet access.

(14 Oct) China will implement its new MLPS (Multi-level Protection of Information Security) 2.0 cybersecurity laws on December 1st, 2019. This new rule means every new mobile number and internet user will be associated with a facial scan, and the Chinese Ministry of Public Security can browse all data on Chinese networks, including foreign owned businesses, through the use of big data techniques. China is attempting to destroy anonymity on the Internet.

China has been increasingly using facial recognition technology as a surveillance tool and to silence opposition, such as spotting criminals in the crowd and evaluating how attentive students are in classroom. It is associated with the social credit system, which China is putting the surveillance in a new height. Recent laws in Hong Kong to ban the use of face masks also showcase the prevalence of such facial recognition technology in the ongoing privacy battleground. The extension of China’s internet rules and preferences on previously free internet space is worrying.

Police Once Classified the Death of the 15-year-old Girl as a Murder Case

Previously: https://t.me/guardiansofhongkong/8418

On September 27, the police applied to the court for a warrant to obtain the CCTV footages near Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI), the school the girl studied in. It was written on the warrant that the purpose was to investigate a murder case.

A few days later, the Police requested for the CCTV footages again, but referred the case as 'Dead Body Found' instead of a murder case.

Witness Report: Deceased Girl's Belongings Found at School and MTR

[Editor's note: Witness suggests the CCTV footage from Block B may have captured the "blank 30mins". The police once classified the case as a murder and had yet released any result of the investigation.]

A schoolmate of Chan, the 15-year-old girl whose body found naked in the water, recalled that she discovered Chan's bag at around 18:15 on September 19 and had it picked up at around 19:00.

The bag was found on the podium of Block B and it contained Chan's student ID card, purse and a phone without any sim card. Since the time of this discovery was close to 17:51 (the moment Chan left the elevator), her schoolmate believes the CCTV in Block B should have captured how the bag was left there. This footage might also explain whether Chan took off her shoes on the campus.

In the same evening, a janitor from MTR also claimed to have found Chan's belongings including another phone and stationery near Exit A of Tiu Keng Leng Station. MTR confirmed this claim and stated that they have returned the items on September 21 to the girl's family.
