Street Artist Plays “Glory to Hong Kong” outside Prince Edward MTR station

It has been four months since the Hong Kong police attacked civilians inside the Prince Edward MTR station on 31 August 2019.

On that night, as the police indiscriminately attacked passengers on the platform and inside the trains, there were sayings that police had caused civilians' deaths. To make it worse, the MTR company never released the full surveillance camera footage in order for the truth to be revealed, despite repeated demands from the population.

Like in many evenings, civilians brought flowers and paper cranes to pay tribute to the victims and the deceased at Prince Edward Station. A street performer was seen playing “Glory to Hong Kong” with his electric guitar.

A City Dead but Not Gone: Bauhinia Rhapsody

Bloody truncheon, abductions and smoke… these are the reality of Hong Kong, a city bludgeoned to toil and tears. The Bauhinia Rhapsody, made by Hong Kong artists, is such a song that somehow plugs into the collective experience of Hongkongers: wrathful, petrified, yet unyielding.

“Umbrellas haven’t dried and all I hear my city cry...won’t turn away until the smoke clears from my city skies.”
“Once a wasted youth, now he’s a giant.”

The city might be dying, but perhaps a new world, peeking through the remnants of the old, has reserved something for the brave and worthy.

[White Terror] China mainland removed a famous Hong Kong lyricist credit and replaced it with "Anonymous"; Internet users raged: shameless country

Albert Leung (林夕) is a famous Hong Kong canton-pop lyricist who supports the Hong Kong movement. He attended the "Freedom is not free Concert" in Taipei, Taiwan in November last year and supported the contestants with tears on the stage. He also wrote a new song "A Tale of Two Cities" for the Taiwan Independent Rock Band "Fire Ex". In the music video, there are many scenes of tear gas, water cannon trucks, and Lennon Walls in Hong Kong. As a result, there are rumors that China is going to ban Albert Leung, and removed more than 3,000 songs from multiple online music platforms.

Although China wants to suppress Leung, the job is deemed too difficult. Almost all popular Canto-pop songs sung by famous singers involved Leung’s works. It is not easy to avoid singing Leung’s works if the singer is performing on stage or hosting a concert in China. However, without moral, everything is possible. Last night (Dec 31, 2019), Shanghai Dragon TV broadcasted the "2020 Dragon TV New Year's Eve Ceremony". Chinese artist Wang Kai sang the song "Me" written by Leung. When the song information were shown on the screen, the name for lyricist became "Anonymous", and Leung’s name was nowhere to be found.

Internet users have commented on the shameless behavior of the Chinese media: "The lyricist is Albert Leung, what a shameless country", "Why did the name of lyricist Albert Leung changed to Anonymous?", "Too disrespectful to the lyricist", "Even if you are a well-known individual, a great person who teaches the beauty of words to countless people, as long as your opinions conflict with the country, you will suddenly become anonymous in the whole country. Police Threatens to Arrest, Using the Breach of the 'Noise Control Ordinance' as a Reason

During the commemoration event, someone broadcasted the protest anthem “May Glory To Hong Kong”, through his portable speaker.

Within minutes, officers arrived and queried the man, demanding identification documents and accusing him of breaching of the Noise Control Ordinance. The man dismissed the allegations. The officer later called on nearly 100 other riot police, who still couldn’t find the owner of the speaker. The man was eventually released with his ID and his particulars taken down. In the end, the police could only take away the speaker and clear up the public altars.

Street busker arrested for singing “Do You Hear the People Sing”

Street busker Oliver Ma, of Chinese-Filipino descent, was surrounded by police officers while busking in Central on August 8. He was arrested when he sang “Do You Hear the People Sing”. Legislative Council Member, Ted Hui, said on Facebook that Oliver Ma was charged for obstructing police, and he has contacted a team of lawyers to follow up.

Oliver Ma was seen in online videos dressed in a black and white striped shirt and sang the English version of “Glory to Hong Kong” on Theater Lane, Central, while four police officers observed nearby. After a while, when Oliver Ma sang “Do You Hear the People Sing”, the other police officers moved forward to surround him and turned off his speaker. A citizen filming the incident asked the police, “What crime did he commit?” when Oliver Ma was in handcuffs.

Previously on July 28, Oliver Ma was arrested on suspicion of criminal intimidation, alleging that he argued with a 65-year-old woman on the street in Central because of noise problems. He was released on bail pending the investigation. He explained the incident on his Facebook, stating that the old woman suddenly snatched away his microphone stand while he was performing, and kicked his guitar case on the ground. Police arrested him on suspicion of criminal intimidation against the old lady, even though they did not any record voice or video evidence of him doing so. He denied having committed any crimes, believing that he was a victim of false accusations.

He suspected that his latest arrest was the police punishing him for his persistence in singing “Glory to Hong Kong”.
