ā€˜It Was Like Having the Chinese Government in the Room With Usā€™

U.S. authorities provided satellite photos of a North Korean ship transferring coal to a Chinese-flagged vessel to the U.N. panel of experts for North. China responded that it was ā€œcompletely normalā€ for Chinese coast guard vessels to patrol in the region and asked the panel ā€œnot to include in its report unverified informationā€ about the Chinese ship. Also, they stated it was a matter of national security.

It also underscores the contradiction between Beijingā€™s attempt to assert itself as a
champion of multilateralism while it persistently seeks to air brush out the record of its
failure to live up to those commitments. The United States has expressed increasing concern about Chinaā€™s failure to enforce sanctions.

DoD trying to keep China from accessing critical U.S. space technology

DoD (Department of Defense) created the trusted capital program due to concerns that China is using its financial clout to access segments of the U.S. defense industrial base.

The trusted capital office encourages venture capital firms to get vetted by DoD so they can be declared sources of ā€œclean capital.ā€ Space is a sector of interest as billions of dollars pour into the industry, making it harder for the government to identify so-called adversarial capital.

Another piece of of DoDā€™s supply chain security involves making sure that contractors know the sources of their software and components.

#Chinaā€™s claim that #Omicron case came from Canadian mail dismissed as ā€˜ludicrousā€™

//A claim by Chinese health authorities that the Omicron variant of COVID-19 was introduced to a resident of Beijing through a piece of regular mail from Canada was dismissed Monday as being ludicrous and comical.

A Chinese state-controlled news outlet first reported that the Jan. 7 infection of a Beijing resident was the result of receiving a letter or parcel from Canada that passed through Hong Kong.

The Chinese report attributed that scenario to the deputy director of the Beijing Centre for Disease Control in a briefing, even though organizations such as the World Health Organization and Canada Post say the risk of contracting coronavirus from a piece of mail is low.//

Foreign media: Kosovo diplomatically boycotts Beijing Winter Olympics

Following the #UnitedStates, #Australia, #Britain, #Canada and other countries, foreign media said #Kosovo also expressed support for the US diplomatic boycott of the #Beijing #WinterOlympics and joined the boycott on Thursday.

According to the report from Alast, Kosovo President #VjosaOsmani supports the US decision on diplomatically boycotting #China, and she joined the boycott due to China's violation of #HumanRights.

Even though the Kosovo delegation will resist all official ceremonies and events during the Beijing Winter Olympics, the athletes will still participate in the game.

Canada Diplomatically Boycotts Beijing Winter Olympics

#Canada announces that they will join the diplomatic boycott to #Beijing2022 #WinterOlympics, and will not have a delegation to attend.

Canadian President #JustinTrudeau indicated that many partner countries are extremely concerned about the continuous behaviour on #humanrights violation. "We have raised the concerns on China's human rights issues for years, and we have to reiterate our stand to #China."

The spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in Canada stated that #Trudeau had a false accusation on China's "human rights violation". China strongly dissatisfies Canada using this reason to diplomatically boycott the Beijing Winter Olympics and has been raised solemn negotiation to Canada.

The spokesperson says that the Canadian government tragically treats the Aboriginals and that the nationwide ethnic discrimination in Canada is severe. China continues that Canada does not qualify to teach or criticise China about human rights. They suggest that Canada should not politicise sports events and should stop interfering with the hosting of the Beijing Olympics, or else, Canada will bring disgrace to itself.

Conservative leadership contender Patrick Brown wins support of Beijing-allied groups, senator

After their party lost another federal election last year, the Chinese Canadian Conservative Association (CCCA) made some striking comments about the Tory platform ā€” and Canadaā€™s relations with Beijing.

Spokesman Joe Li said the Conservative push for a tougher stance on China had alienated voters of Chinese descent and cost the party three ridings.

Why are Chinese police operating in Canada, while our own government and security services apparently look the other way?

In China, the high-profile TV drama In The Name Of The People has become a smash hit. In that show, Chinese agents enter the U.S. posing as businessmen so they can repatriate a factory manager who had fled abroad with huge ill-gotten wealth.

But a new study by the European non-governmental agency Safeguard Defenders suggests that there might be some truth to the fiction. According to the NGO, the Fuzhou Public Security Bureau has established more than 50 ā€œoverseas police service centresā€ in cities around the world ā€“ including three publicly documented ones in Toronto, home to Canadaā€™s largest Chinese diaspora.

Most Canadians want Ottawa to set up foreign-influence registry

A strong majority of Canadians favour a registry of foreign agents, similar to ones in Australia and the United States, to shed light on Canadian citizens paid to influence Canadaā€™s political process on behalf of countries such as China or Russia.

A public-opinion survey by Nanos Research found that 88 per cent of Canadians support or somewhat support a foreign-influence registry. Only 7 per cent of those surveyed oppose or somewhat oppose having lawyers, lobbyists and retired politicians register when they take on paid roles for foreign governments and companies linked to these countries.

Organizations condemning Hong Kong Police at World Police & Fire Games

Grassroots organizations are condemning the decision to allow members of the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) to compete at the World Police & Fire Games (WPFG) in Winnipeg.

On Monday, six Hong Kong Canadian advocacy groups from across the country released a joint statement expressing their concern.

"How can we allow the Hong Kong Police Force to represent themselves in Canada when they have committed clear violence against the Hong Kong people?ā€ Henry Chan, co-director of Saskatchewan Stands With Hong Kong, told CTV News.

Chan is referring to allegations of police brutality during public protests that started in 2019.

Hong Kong Police Participation Sparks Protests at World Police and Fire Games in Winnipeg

The World Police and Fire Games recently concluded in Winnipeg, Canada, with a closing ceremony on August 6th. The event drew attention due to the participation of the Hong Kong Police Force. A local organization "Winnipeg Hong Kong Concern" led a protest outside the venue, joined by around 30 Hong Kong residents.

During the protest, the group chanted slogans in English, calling the Hong Kong police "killers" in reference to their actions during the 2019 #AntiELAB protests, and demanding their return to China.

Some officers from the Hong Kong police delegation filmed and recorded the protesters with their cameras, even challenging them to confront them directly. "Bring it on", some officers shouted at the protesters.

Local authorities, including the Winnipeg police, were present to maintain order at the site. They advised the protesters to disperse peacefully for safety reasons. Despite this, the advocacy group expressed their determination to continue protesting and closely monitor the Hong Kong Police, emphasizing that they will observe them until their departure from the airport.

Bryan, a member of the Winnipeg Hong Kong Concern group, spoke to Radio Free Asia, expressing concerns about whether the Hong Kong Police would leave Canada promptly after the Games. He also called into question whether the Hong Kong officers' photographing of the protesters were aimed at gathering information about Hong Kong residents in Canada.

The advocacy group issued a separate statement following the protest, urging Canadian authorities to investigate the decision made by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) regarding the participation of the Hong Kong police in the 2023 World Police and Fire Games.
