Former Political Satire Host Leaves Hong Kong for #Taiwan: "Sorry for Not Being Able to Say Goodbye"
On July 11, 2021, Tsang Chi-ho, a radio and TV host who was suddenly sacked by the public broadcaster #RTHK in June 2021, announced on Facebook that he has left Hong Kong for Taiwan. Tsang apologized for not being able to tell and say goodbye to his friends in advance.
Tsang wrote, "I woke up and realised that a 'Hong Kong' that is not Hong Kong anymore." He said he missed his friends a lot.
"In each of our heart, there lie many people, happenings and thousands of words. The path thereafter we will continue to walk," Tsang wrote in his post.
Many netizens left words of encouragement to Tsang: "Safety comes first," "As long as you and your family are well," and "Thank you for what you have done for Hong Kong" among others.
Taiwanese netizens also told Tsang "Welcome to Taiwan".
[Editor's note: #TsangChiHo is one of the hosts of the famous political satire #Headliner produced by RTHK. Under political pressure, the long-running popular program has been suspended. The public broadcaster RTHK termimated Tsang's contract with immediate effect in June 2021, despite the popularity of another radio show he was hosting.]

Indie Film Organization criticises Hong Kong authorities for “doing everything possible” to censor films
#YingEChi, an independent film distributor in Hong Kong, was accused of “inciting riots and spreading Hong Kong independence messages” by pro-Beijing media.
The group is the distributor of “Inside the Red Brick Wall”, a documentary that covered the pro-democracy protest and thr police siege that occurred at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (#PolyU) in 2019.
Not only was Ying E Chi’s annual funding halted by the Arts Developments Council (#ADC); Ying E Chi was also unable to hold its Short Film Marathon scheduled on July 10, 2021.
In its open house event on July 10, art director Vincent Chui said, the only thing they can do is to push its limits behind the red line of the film industry.
Chui criticised the Office for Film, Newspaper and Article Administration (#OFNAA) for doing “everything possible” to censor controversial films. “In the coming future they might even have to review wedding videos and only allow licensed restaurants to play those videos on a wedding day”.

The foreigners in China’s disinformation drive
In recent years, the "vloggers" have been increasingly presenting themselves as China-lovers, spreading Communist Party disinformation.
YouTube labels Chinese state media like broadcaster CGTN as government-funded. But there is little policing when it comes to individuals promoting similar narratives.
Some vloggers are suspected of co-operating with state-owned outlets to spread China's rhetoric to the world. But it's far from clear what really motivates them, or how effective this strategy is.

Australia increasingly reliant on China’s demand for iron ore
Escalating political tensions between Canberra and Beijing have done little to dampen the value of exports, with China accounting for more than 40 per cent of goods shipped in May, on the back of record demand for iron ore.
The latest economic chart pack from the Reserve Bank shows a striking lack of diversity in Australia’s trade ties and highlights an increasing dependence on iron ore sales to China.
China made up about 10 per cent of goods and services exports in 2005, well behind Japan, before spiking to 25 per cent at the height of the last mining boom and continuing to climb above 35 per cent this year.

HK Authorities Propose Real Name Registration and #HealthCode System like China's
Hong Kong's Secretary for Heath #LoChungMau said on July 11, 2022 that the government had plans to introduce a three-colour ‘health code’ system in the city, bringing the app in line with China's system.
It would be an additional function to #LeaveHomeSafe, the government's COVID contact-tracing app. Lo mentioned that reference was sought from the health code systems used China. He also claimed that it was important to implement real name registration.
[Editor's note: Since the LeaveHomeSafe app has been made compulsory by the authorities in Hong Kong, many citizens expressed concerns over its privacy issues. The health code system in China has been long regarded as a #MassSurveillance campaign of the #ChineseCommunistParty government.]

Thousands in Henan protested banks for witholding their money, resulting in large scale police and public confrontation
The frozen deposits situation at banks in #Henan Province has not eased. In the early morning of Sunday (10 July), thousands of bank account holders, unable to withdraw their deposits, gathered and protested at Zhengzhou People's Bank.
Online videos showed protesters holding up banners demanding the bank to return their deposits. Police and a large number of unidentified men arrived at the scene, to whom protesters chanted "triads". Efforts to disperse the crowd turned into violent clashes, and many were injured.
Four rural banks in Henan Province began to close their online withdrawal and transfer channels in April, affecting more than 400,000 people, involving deposits of up to 40 billion yuan.
It was reported that when some depositors planned to go in person to Henan to withdraw money last month, their #HealthCode turned red, effectively restricting their movement. It is suspected that the concerned authority was behind this controversial act.
