Only less than 2% police officers deployed in support of the City’s first district lockdown, far less than officers involved in PR campaign

On January 23, 2021, Hong Kong government willfully locked down four main locations in Yau Ma Tei and Jordan to carry out compulsory COVID19 test. Over 1,000 officers from five enforcement units were involved in this operation.

Based on media reports and further information that Stand News collected directly from HK Police Force, it showed that only 600 officers (1.67%) of the 35,000-strong Police Force were deployed.

This was even less than the officers took part in the production of the Force’s latest advertising video and the least, in proportion to its total staff, among five enforcement units involved in the operation.

All Bureau heads of the five enforcement units visited the lock-down location. The Director of Immigration mentioned that 300 officers were deployed. The Correctional Services Department said 230, while the Fire Services and the Customs & Excise deployed 650 and 350 staff respectively.

#HSBC chief defends freezing accounts of democrats as “legally obliged”

Following thr Chinese Authorities’ imposition of National Security Law in Hong Kong, the HSBC, the city’s leading bank has been criticized for assisting the National Security Police and freezing the bank accounts of pro-democracy activists’, such as #TedHui and his family and the Good Neighbor North District Church.

In a meeting scheduled on January 26, 2021, the Bank’s CEO Noel Quinn told the Foreign Affairs Committee in the UK that the bank was "legally obliged to take action" on accounts after being notified by Hong Kong police.

In a Facebook post on January 24, 2021, former lawmaker Ted Hui Chi-fung, now in exile, said that he has provided the Committee with detailed information on the cases where his and his families accounts were frozen.

Ted Hui added that any bank, business or institution that assists in repressing the freedom of Hong Kong people would have to pay a heavy international price and that he would do everything possible to make them face the consequences.

In a letter to Hui in early January, Quinn explained that the bank was "forced" to freeze the accounts at the request of the police. Hui, however, rejected Quinn’s explanation, saying he “failed to provide the legal basis” for the account lockdown.

Chinese Netizens Slam Keanu Reeves for Plan to Attend Concert by Tibet House, Call for Boycott of Matrix 4

Chinese netizens have slammed the Canadian actor #KeanuReeves for his plan to attend an online charity concert hosted by the #TibetHouse on #Mar03 US time, calling for a boycott of his new film.

Hosted annually since 1989, the concert has featured a roll call of prominent musicians including David Bowie. Proceeds from the concert go to the Tibet House, formally known as the Culture Centre of H. H. the Dalai Lama, an international nonprofit organisation dedicated to preserving, displaying and protecting traditional Tibetan culture.

Reeves is himself a musician, having been the bassist of the band Dogstar in the 90s. He is reportedly areligious but interested in Buddhism. Years ago, he starred as Prince Siddhartha in Little Buddha, a biopic about the Gautama Buddha.

Chinese netizens are upset by Reeves’ plan to attend the concert. Some denounced it as an “insult to China”, while others consider it a show of “support for breaking up Chinese territory” and called for a boycott of #TheMatrixResurrections, his latest film.

A netizen claimed that while they have been a diehard Matrix fans, they “will not contribute a penny to its box office numbers”. Others said they are happy they can “now save a few bucks”, with some telling Reeves to “stay away from politics if [he] know[s] nothing about it”.

Reeves has not responded to the criticism.
