Head of Radiology at Princess Margaret Hospital Resigns and Refuses to Provide List of Employees on Strike

The Hospital Authority Employees Alliance (#HKEA) initiated a 5-day strike in early February and demanded a “complete shutdown of the border” to stop the spread of the coronavirus to Hong Kong from China.

On 25 Feb, the Hospital Authority wrote to all employees who took leave demanding an explanation for their absence which caused dissatisfaction among the medical staff.

According to the source, the Head of Radiology Department of the Princess Margaret Hospital refused to provide a list of the staff who participated in the strike and might have tendered his resignation from his position as the head of the department.

The Hospital Authority states that they will not comment any human resources arrangements on individual employees. According to the source, the hospital is trying to convince him to stay as Head of Radiology. The Hospital Authority spokesperson also said that staff will not be dismissed due to their participation in the strike.

They went on strike to save lives, and you reward them with warning letters. Don’t forget striking is also their right under the basic law.

Hong Kong Doctor uses animal characters to promote public health

The workload of medical staff has increased drastically since the spread of Wuhan pneumonia to Hong Kong. A doctor in Hong Kong has taken her break time to create illustrations with health advice, and work with Sham Shui Po District Council to promote personal hygiene and other health precautions during this coronavirus outbreak.

In the illustrations, a gorilla is shown washing hands, and a leopard is wearing a mask. Together with six other animals they form a team promoting useful anti-epidemic information in doctor's uniforms.

Dr Lucci Liyeung is the illustrator and an orthopaedic surgery resident in a public hospital. She has always been in love with drawing, and created these animal characters several years ago. She wishes to address the public's concerns over the epidemic with her illustrations.

Doctor from PolyU Siege Condemned HK Government in Lancet Article : "Subverting Humanity for Operational Needs"

During the large-scale clashes at Polytechnic University (PolyU) last November, where Hong Kong Police laid siege to protesters trapped on the campus, a large number of volunteer first aid workers and paramedics were arrested on charges of rioting. British surgeon Dr. Darren Mann, who was on campus that day, gave an account of it in an article in The Lancet, the world’s leading medical journal, in which he slammed the police's actions as "almost unheard of in civilized countries", and asserted that the city has fallen into a humanitarian crisis.

In Memory of Dr. Joanna Tse Who Sacrificed Herself to Save SARS Patients 17 Years Ago

The SARS outbreak in 2003 took the lives of eight medical workers in Hong Kong. Also a type of coronavirus, SARS was first carried to Hong Kong by a man from China in February. The SARS disease, with a much higher mortality rate than COVID 19, had traumatized the population in Hong Kong.

On 13 May 2003, Dr Joanna Tse Yuen-man, a pulmonologist at Tuen Mun Hospital, passed away at 35 after volunteering to treat SARS patients.

The other 7 medical workers who passed away were:

- Dr Cheng Ha-yan (Tai Po Hosital)
- Dr Cheung Sik-hin (Private Otolaryngology Doctor)
- Lau Kam-yung (Health Assistant, United Christian Hospital)
- Dr Lau Tai Kwan (Private Paediatrics Doctor)
- Lau Wing-kai (Nurse, Thoracic Medical Department, Tuen Mun Hospital)
- Tang Heung-mei (Health Assistant, United Christian Hospital)
- Wong Kang-tai (Health Assistant, The Prince of Wales Hospital)

17 years later, another type of coronavirus by the name of COVID 19 returned to haunt Hongkongers. In early February, medical workers had initiated a 5-day-strike to urge the government to close the border. They had also did their best in saving those infected with the virus. Without their contribution, Hong Kong would not have been successful in containing the virus.

Let us salute the medical workers who, despite many difficulties and the chance of getting infected themselves, held our line of defense. Zero medical workers have contracted the disease and may it stay that way.

We salute to all medical workers of the world.

Police confiscate speaker and issue “gathering ban” tickets at Protest against Health Code and Mass Surveillance

The Hong Kong SAR government has established a laboratory run by China-owned Beijing Genomics Institute (#BGI) at Hong Kong's Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park for universal voluntary Covid-19 testing without consultation from the public and requested private clinics assisting sample collection.

Neo Democrats members of Roy Tam Hoi-pong and Gary Fan Kwok-wai and Central and Western District lawmaker of Napo Wong Weng-Chi protested outside the stadium on August 16, 2020.

More than 30 police on the scene issued tickets for violation of “group gathering ban” and confiscated the speaker.

District Councilor Roy Tam stated civilians may lose confidence in private clinics if samples are passed to the China-owned companies for Covid-19 testing. He urged private doctors not to join the plan and criticised that the government ingratiated the Chinese Communist Party (#CCP) by sacrificing Hong Kongers.

The pro-Beijing camp has not only promoted the “Hong Kong Heath QR Code” system, but has also proposed only allowing those with the green “Heath QR code” to dine-in at restaurants. Gary Fan challenged that the reason behind this wired policy is for surveillance to restrict civilians’ freedom of movement.

Hong Kong's First aider charged with rioting for possessing radio communication device in Anti-ELAB Protests

On December 28, 2020, the District Maginstrates in Hong Kong cleared six people of rioting charges during an #antiELAB protests in Causeway Bay on August 31, 2019, but convicted one man of rioting after noting that he had tried to run away from the police.

Handing down the not-guilty verdicts, judge Frankie Yiu said although the six defendants had been wearing similar outfits to the rioters at the scene, the prosecution had failed to prove their involvement beyond all reasonable doubt.

However, Chan Cho-ho, aged 24, was convicted of rioting and possessing radio communication devices without a licence. Yiu said Chan was equipped with full protest gear and had attempted to run away from the police, while his companion had also tried to attack officers as they fled.

According to thr judge, it was "unacceptable" of Chan to try to defend himself by saying he was at the scene of the riot as a first-aider. Chan was remanded in custody until sentencing next month.
