HU Xijin, Editor-in-chief of Chinese and English editions of the Global Times complained in Weibo that the internet censorship in was too strict which even affect the work of editing in Global Times.

HU believed more room should be allowed as most of the Netizens in China are patriots. The freedom would allow better communications and research.

Hu Xijin’s deleted weibo post

It’s nearly National Day and getting on foreign websites is extremely difficult. It’s even affecting the work of Global Times. I personally feel that this is a bit over the top, and am making a suggestion that I hope will be listened to.
Taking the Mass Line and believing the masses is extremely important. The vast majority of the people love the country and the Party. They have a great ability in terms of political discernment and will hold the line steadfastly. Our country isn’t weak. I suggest we allow a little more interaction between our society and the foreign net. This’ll be beneficial to the maturity of China’s discourse, scientific research, communication with the outside, and also China’s national interest.

Hu’s weibo second weibo post
The post at noon was deleted by myself because it was re-posted quite rapidly. I did not intend to make it a hot post even though I often raise different opinions. I hope all discussion could be rational and all of us could take part in a constructive conversation.
I would also delete this post later. Thank you.

Hongkongers protest outside Chinese embassies in Washington and San Francisco, burning China flags and photos of Xi Jinping

Yesterday, 1 October, China's National Day, was marked by demonstrations by Hong Kong people in exile or abroad in the UK and the US. In Washington, a few dozen people, including Hong Kong Liberation Coalition (HKLC) founder Sixtus Leung Chung-Hang and Director of China Affairs at the World Uighur Congress Ilshat H. Kokbore, joining the demonstration at the Chinese Embassy in the US on Thursday (30th September), local time. In an interview with Radio Free Asia (RFA), Leung said that their demands were threefold: to call on the US and the international community to boycott the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics; to strengthen sanctions against China; and to lobby the US Congress to push an ethics investigation bill against US companies, that forbidden them to invest in Chinese companies that undermine human rights.

In San Francisco, overseas Hongkongers demonstrated outside the Chinese Consulate General on Friday (1st October), raising flags such as "Hong Kong Independence" and "Liberate Hong Kong. Former District Councillors Participated in Demonstration in the UK

Oct 1 is the China National Day. More than 100 HKers gathered for an assembly at Piccadilly Gardens in #Manchester, #UK. Event organisers included former Tuen Mun #DistrictCouncillor (DC) Chris Tsang Chun-Hing and Former Wan Chai DC Clara Cheung. They both mentioned that #HKers should promote our local culture in the UK.

The event lasted for half an hour and was hosted by Abingo, Social Media Page #ManchesteHongKong administrator. Aged 30, he arrived UK half a year ago with a BN(O) visa. He explained that the assembly's theme is "#WeUnion", as the speakers combined with #valiant and #PRN, hoping that HKers would not be easily separated.

Former DC: Build the culture and identity from daily to arts

Chris Tang, former Tuen Mun DC, was one of the organisers. He arrived UK a few months ago with BN(O). He used "#MIRROR", a Hong Kong Cantopop boy group, as an example that there were cheering events in London which stated that HKers could export the culture in daily life in the UK. He also hoped to become a bridge between people in the UK and HKers, building up linkage with them and letting people in the UK to understand the Hong Kong situation.

Clara Cheung, Former Wan Chai DC, was also one of the organisers. She was previously an art curator and she actively integrated art into community while at the position. She indicated that the Hong Kong cultural sector was discussing how to bring Hong Kong cultural art to the world. And that "HKers are now scattered across the world". As long as we proactively create artworks, it will build HKers identity. She also believed that HKers should communicate with other exile people who have similar ideas and share cultural assets such as Cantopop, Hong Kong food as well as stories. Throughout the interaction, HKers can build their own culture.

Editor note: In the #AntiELAB movement in 2019, Hong Kong protesters are classified into 2 groups - "the valiant" and "the PRN". "Valiant" refers to people in the frontline who clash directly with the police. "PRN" means "peaceful, rational, nonviolent" people who support peaceful rallies and marches.
