Police Provokes Citizen Who Was Trying to Go Home

A citizen told the police that his route back home was being blocked. However, the police replied, "Do I need to escort you home?" The citizen refused, saying that he was not sure who the police were, as they did not display any warrants. The police then mumbled, "Rubbish," at the citizen's response.

From the video, the officer was clearly trying to provoke the citizen, going to the extent of insinuating that they "were trying to cause trouble", and that he "was not afraid of trouble."

Plainclothes Police Pepper-sprayed by Colleagues

1738 | #SheungShui

During arrests in Sheung Shui, riot police repeatedly pepper-sprayed citizens, as well as a plainclothes police officer. He made clarifications as to his identity, and had to show his warrant card in order to stop being pepper-sprayed. The officer was in agony, and needed help from his colleagues to leave.

Editor's note: It is not the first time police officers had hurt their co-workers "accidentally", and it is worth thinking whether police had deployed "reasonable force", or whether they were just attacking civilians indiscriminately.

Friendly Fire: Police Pepper-Sprayed a Masked Undercover Officer Until the Warrant card was Shown

A plainclothes officer wearing facemask was on the receiving end of multiple pepper sprays; he was visibly in pain. His colleagues kept on spraying him even he yelled "I'm one of you".

The riot police stopped spraying him only when he finally showed his warrant card. He was later helped away from the scene by two other officers, who were similarly dressed, with full-face coverings.

Editor's note: Some netizens commented that this is the result of the police displaying warrant cards. They end up shooting themselves in their foot, and they get to experience their very own "minimal and proportionate use of force".

8 Passengers from Wuhan to Taiwan Exhibit Fever amidst Mysterious Pneumonia Outbreak

A total of eight passengers aboard eight different direct flights from Wuhan to Taiwan have developed fever since Dec. 31 amidst the mysterious pneumonia outbreak in the central Chinese city, according to Taiwan’s Centers for Disease Control (CDC) on Sunday (Jan. 5).

Amongst the 8 fever cases, 3 of them are being closely monitored by local health authorities. The CDC urge the public to maintain good hygiene and avoid contact with wildlife and poultry should they plan to visit Wuhan.

Wang Yuedan, a professor of immunology at the Peking University School of Basic Medical Sciences, has warned that the possibility of human-to-human transmission cannot be ruled out and that the culprit could be a novel coronavirus.
