Spilling Blood On the Altar-
Remembrance of Deceased Student Descends into Oppression

On February 8 in Tseung Kwan O, people gathered in remembrance of 22-year-old student Chow Tsz-Lok who passed away 4 months ago after falling from Sheung Tak Carpark during a police operation.

On the same occasion, the public voiced discontent against the government's unconsulted plan to set up a special clinic for Wuhan Pneumonia in the district.

Throughout the night, police arrested at least 5 district councillors, one reporter, and over 100 citizens. Police also ordered civilians to kneel and raise their hands during stop and search. One district councillor assistant was injured by a tear gas canister fired by the police. At least one district councillor was allegedly sexually harassed by the police.

The police, however, accused an arrested reporter from City Broadcasting Channel (CBC) of the City University of Hong Kong of stealing. CBC has already issued a statement condemning the police for violating press freedom.

In the same night, Tseung Kwan O district councillor Valerie Cheuk-Nga Wong was reported missing, according to her team.

Editor's note:
Just as the Hong Kong police has more than once arrested elected district councillors, the ever-growing police power endorsed by the authorities is endangering the limited and remaining democratic power in Hong Kong--when the district council is the only direct election available in the city. The arrest of representatives of the voice of people is once again a testimony to the venality of the scoundrels founding "One Country Two Systems", a tyranny cloaked in the shape of democracy. But a hierarchy revealed is a tyrant flinched. Perhaps with the millions of Hongkongers who were feeling the pain themselves, there is hope after all.

Cathay Pacific and Cathay Dragon frontline employees demand cessation of all flights to China and sufficient protective equipment

Watch video: https://t.me/guardiansofhongkong/17061

During a rally organized by Cathay Dragon cabin crew members on February 8 2020, the following statement was announced, following the union's green light to strike action after voting:

"We would like to urge Cathay Pacific once again to ensure a safe working environment for frontline employees. It is incumbent upon the employer to provide the appropriate protective equipment for frontline employees, so that their health and safety can be assured as much as possible.

We request Cathay Pacific to immediately cease all flights to China. This should be done immediately instead of a gradual reduction of flights over a two-month period, and with 10% of flights to China still in service at the end.

Cathay Pacific and Cathay Dragon must also provide employees with a sufficient protective equipment such masks, gloves and hand sanitizer. Only this way can our colleagues’ health and safety be assured no matter where we fly."

An Australian-Chinese dual citizen was accused of violating National Security Law
HK authorities : No obligation to grant consular visitation to dual nationals

On February 8, Australian Broadcast Company (#ABC) quoted the federal government that an Australian-Chinese man was charged under the National security law (#NSL).

Although the authorities did not reveal his identity, a spokesperson at Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (#DFAT) indicated that the defendant was arrested on Jan 6, 2021, for "conspiring to subvert state power".

He was released on bail the next day but was then re-arrested on March 1 when attending court, and charged with "subversion".

With reference to the date of arrest and the accusation, the man is said to be one of the #47Democrats, Gordon Ng (#吳政亨).

Yet, ABC cannot confirm whether the defendant mentioned by DFAT is Gordon Ng.

DFAT has also revealed that Australian officials have been repeatedly refused consular access to the man, because Hong Kong authorities no longer recognise dual citizenship.

"The Australian Consulate-General in Hong Kong was notified by Hong Kong authorities of the arrest of a dual Australian-Chinese citizen under its National Security Law in January 2021," a DFAT spokesperson said.

The report continued that the Hong Kong Security Bureau declined to provide any further details about the prosecution, saying that it could not comment on individual cases; and that the Hong Kong government was not obliged to grant consular visitation rights to dual nationals.

ps. Gordon Ng is the founder of Legcopetition, a voluntary group for primaries. He is also known as "#Liberal (#李伯盧)" on social media platforms.

Ending of Fight Club Restored in China

#FightClub, a 1999-film directed by #DavidFincher and starred by #BradPitt and #EdwardNorton, was streamed by #TencentVideo in China but with a very different ending. The change of ending to satisfy Chinese censorship has created backlash from film fans around the world.

Finally, the Chinese streaming platform restored the original ending to the film, instead of telling the viewers that the police had "rapidly figured out the whole plan and arrested all criminals."

#47democrats in Hong Kong detained for almost a year while awaiting trial

The national security case involving 47 pro-democracy figures continued its third time hearing on February 8, 2022 in a Hong Kong Court.

The case was again adjourned for next hearing scheduled on February 28, 2022. By then, most of the defendants have remanded in custody for almost one year.

The 47 defendants – including activist #JoshuaWong, former law professor #BennyTai and ex-lawmakers #LamCheukTing, #WuChiWai and #LeungKwokHung – stand accused of taking part in an unofficial primary election in July 2020 with a view to subverting the state power.

Only 14 of the accused democrats are currently on bail pending trial. Others have been in custody for almost one year while they await trial.

#852Post Founder Relocated to Taiwan to Speak on Hong Kong Matters

#YauChingYuen, the founder of 852 Post, a pro-democracy news platform, revealed in a Youtube video released on February 8, 2022 that he has left Hong Kong for Taiwan on January 17, 2022. His wife just arrived in Taiwan and was currently in quarantine.

Yau revealed that he received a visa issued by the Taiwan government last February, but he thought he could stay in Hong Kong for a longer while.

The authorities' suppression of Stand News, an independent news outlet in Hong Kong, changed his mind.

Yau described the situation in Hong Kong as "Cultural Revolution" alike. He realised that he could only leave Hong Kong in order to speak up.
