Chinese Scholar Calls Hong Kong Alliance a 'color revolution', 'a politically subversive organization in violation of the National Security Law'

Since Beijing imposed a national security law in Hong Kong on July 1, 2020, there has been concern whether the NGO 'Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China' ('Hong Kong Alliance'), which espouses the goal of 'end one-part dictatorship, build a democratic China', will be accused of breaching the law.

Tian Fei-long, the associate professor of the law school of Beihang University and the member of council of Chinese Association of Hong Kong and Macao Studies, wrote in the Chinese state-owned newspaper Hong Kong Commercial Daily on Nov 16, 2020 that Hong Kong Alliance was 'a part of the Western color revolution and agenda of democratic globalization', and had been receiving funding from the overseas pro-democracy organizations and the foreign anti-China powers.

Tian claimed that the five operational goals of Hong Kong Alliance, namely, 'release the dissidents', 'rehabilitate the 1989 pro-democracy movement', 'demand accountability for the June 4th massacre', 'end one-party dictatorship' and 'build a democratic China', showed that Hong Kong Alliance was a 'politically subversive organization' and a Hong Kong-based 'organization of color revolution' which colluded with foreign powers in the name of 'patriotic democracy' , he then accused Hong Kong Alliance of violating the National Security Law.

[Editor's note:
Founded in Hong Kong on May 21, 1989, Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China is a NGO supporting pro-democracy movements in China.

It is also the main organizer of the annual June 4th vigil in Hong Kong's Victoria Park. Since its establishment, it has five operational goals, namely "release the dissidents", "rehabilitate the 1989 pro-democracy movement", "Demand accountability of the June 4th massacre", "end one-party dictatorship" and "build a democratic China".]
