Some Mainland China lawyers say that the definition of the draft Law on Protection of Personal Information should be more specific
(09 Nov) The China Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPCSC), which reviewed the draft Law on Protection of Personal Information last month, is now conducting a public consultation that closes on the 19th of November. Some Mainland China lawyers are of the view that the definition and enforcement of personal information in the Draft should be more specific and clear. Some criminal lawyers estimated that the Chinese Authority would introduce corresponding administrative regulations to improve the whole system. However, if the mandatory collection of sensitive personal information is involved, disputes between the Chinese Government and the public may easily arise.

Thus, the whole firm was being listed into the sanction list of China. According to Financial Times, the firm recently released a statement for “cutting ties”, saying that those legal opinions are not related to other firm members and has already removed the related document on their official website.
The related legal opinion document was distributed to non-profit organisations by the four lawyers in London. It described the actions that the Chinese government did in Xinjiang, involving the crimes of humanity and genocide. Right after that, the firm was being sanctioned by China.
