Severe Shortage of Masks in Hong Kong; Mainland Chinese Bidding Masks at All Costs
Editor's Note: During this tough period, many purchasing agents told the media that Mainland Chinese had paid South-east Asia manufacturers much higher prices to buy as many masks as possible, and later they could resell at even higher prices in order to take advantage of the current situation; On the other hand, the HKSAR government sent out purchasing contracts with harsh terms, including "the lowest bid wins", to various suppliers when there is a global shortage of masks. Can you believe such an impractical way could buy any mask for desperate Hongkongers?
Even as the supply of surgical masks grows scarcer by the day, the Hong Kong government has turned a blind eye to citizens' urgent needs for face masks. So, many heartful purchasing agents decided to put aside profit-making and prioritize citizen’s need upon this desperate time. They utilized their business networks to contact manufacturers and wholesalers to search for a consistent supply of surgical masks for Hong Kong citizens.
A Hong Kong purchasing agent had ordered surgical masks from a Korean manufacturer and quickly paid the sum in full in order to secure the stock. However, when the shipment had arrived at Incheon port and was getting ready to be delivered to Hong Kong, a mob of mainland Chinese attempted to redirect the shipment to Mainland China by claiming ownership over it. Fortunately, the Hong Kong agent was cautious enough and was at the scene and was able to stop it.
In these desperate times, we, Hongkongers, should unite as one. Please support those agents investing their time and efforts for the sake of the people of Hong Kong; or if you have the time, comment on their Facebook pages to encourage them.

Hainan patient concealed facts and spat, leading to two medical staff being infected
(7 Feb) According to a report by Chinese news website Nanhai News, a man from the city of Dongfang, Hainan province went to two hospitals to consult doctors between 24 and 28 January after showing symptons of the novel coronavirus. At the hospitals, he deliberately concealed the fact that he had close contact with his elder sister and brother-in-law, both coming from Wuhan, Hubei province. While he was receiving saline solution, he repeatedly spat on the floor as well as argued with hospital staff. Subsequently, two medics from Dongfang People's Hospital wete tested positive for the virus.
The man, whose surname is Zhang, boarded a train on 29 January for Haikou City to do a check up at its People's Hospital, and he was diagnosed with the coronavirus. He has causrd a great number of medics and people who had close contact with him to be placed under quarantine. The area where he lives has adopted a "close-off management" measure. Zhang's behaviour was criticised as severely disturbing Dongfang City's infection control measure and causing a threat to public safety.
At present, Zhang is under investigation by the public security bureau in Dongfang City for jeopardising public safety. He has also been sent to a specific hospital for quarantine and treatment.

Wuhanese brags about breaking through customs! Japanese cry foul and want him out!
(8 Feb) A netizen from Wuhan showed “how to get through Japanese customs.” The article immediately triggered artillery fire and was reposted to Twitter, setting off Japanese’s anger.
Netizen “vincecici” from Wuhan said he recently went to Tokyo, Japan to participate in an exhibition. The birthplace shown on his passport was Hubei, and the place of issue was Guangdong. After all kinds of uncertainty and concerns, he finally entered Japan through the Japanese customs. “So Don’t worry, the Japanese are very friendly towards China this time, and they only prohibit passports issued by Hubei from entry, whether they were born in Hubei or not doesn’t matter.”
This Wuhan netizen also mentioned a separate line leading to the customs for visa holders from Hubei and for only those with visas issued in Hubei. Because his visa was issued in Guangdong, he didn’t need to go through it and just went to customs clearance. “A form will be given when you clear the customs. There are two questions on it, asking if you have been to Hubei within 14 days. Anyway, just answer no (い い え) then it will be fine.”
After it was exposed on how it was done, it was first bombarded by mainland Chinese netizens, and then the post was forwarded to Twitter to set off a strong backfire from the Japanese. Many voices asked the Japanese government to send the police to investigate this Wuhan netizen’s location.
Seeing that the wind was blowing the wrong direction, the Wuhan netizen deleted the tutorial first, and then clarified that “I am living in Shenzhen all year round. I am a Wuhanese with Shenzhen residency account. My passport is issued by Guangdong. My birthplace is Hubei. I haven’t been to Wuhan for almost 2 months, because my family settled in Shenzhen” and his body didn’t show any symptoms.
In addition, he also stated that he “legally entered the country.” If Japanese netizens want to report him to the Japan Police Department or the Immigration Bureau, it will be fine because he will pass the scrutiny. However, he also pointed out one thing he did wrong was that he said “No” when asked whether he had been to Hubei.

Distribution quotas exposed - Police given 640 thousand masks, and taking 40 times more N95 masks than Department of Health
(15 Feb) While there is only one-month’s stock of equipment for frontline medical staff, the HK government is still refusing to disclose how the supplies are being used. The Apple Daily received documents showing that the police ranks second in number of surgical masks distributed, coming after the Department of Health. In the first round, they were provided with over 640 thousand surgical masks, and they were given the most N95 masks among all departments. Legislator and former doctor Kwok Ka-ki criticises the government for distributing the disease control supplies unfairly, with medical staff who actually contact patients lacking medical N95 masks and protective clothing, while the police is given large amounts of high standard supplies. “It is a complete waste of resources and public funds, and it’s exhausting the already scarce supply of protective clothing,” he says.

Passengers Entering Hong Kong from China Say in Mandarin They Won't Follow Self-Quarantine Rule as They are "Not Sick"
The Hong Kong Government has been enforcing the 14-day self-quarantine measure since Feb 8. Many people from China rushed through Shenzhen Bay port to enter Hong Kong on Feb 7 before the "deadline". The Shenzhen Bay Port was crowded.
When entering Hong Kong, people speaking only Mandarin said that as they were "not sick", self-segregation would not be unnecessary and they would not follow such rule.
Ms. Zeng, who came from Jiangmen, Guangdong in China, said, “I drove over alone today, as the public transportation in China has stopped.” Ms. Zeng wanted to stay in China for a few more days, but as she learned that Hong Kong is preparing to implement new anti-epidemic measures, she immediately went to Hong Kong with her two sons. She visits China on every public holiday and she criticized the government’s new proposals. "Isn’t China advocating 14-day quarantine at home? I didn’t go there. China is well sealed! You see, there are many human contacts".
When asked about the customs clearance dispute, she thinks it was enough to block people from Hubei. And as she was from Guangdong, there is no need for her to be quarantined. She even pointed out that it was unnecessary to quarantine for 14 days and for home quarantine persons to wear electronic tracking bracelets. Data show that Guangdong has the second most diagnosed cases after Hubei Province in China.

Infected Chinese couple took paracetamol and returned to China. 7 people on the plane had fever and all 200 people quarantined
(30 Mar) The novel coronavirus has become a worldwide pandemic. Just as China is reporting a cool down on the pandemic, many Chinese overseas have chosen to return to China to avoid the outbreak. However some people were ill. Tianjin municipal government announced on 22 March that there were four new imported confirmed cases, two of them were a French Chinese couple. They took the flight from Paris to Beijing. A passenger posted on Weibo that the couple had fever symptoms a week before they flew but hided the truth and took paracetamol before boarding the plane. He only reported he had symptoms such as fever, dry cough and headache when he was at immigration. A passenger discovered the French male felt unwell before he boarded but his wife claimed there was no need to worry and explained her husband coughed only because of his smoking habit and “he was fine and was not unwell”. After arriving at Tianjin, as 7 people on the plane had a fever, all 200 people on the plane had to undergo mandatory quarantine.

The Chinese Government has FOOLED you!
Youtuber SerpentZA recounts some of his friends' experiences dealing with the recently intensified racism in China. State-endorsed discrimination comes in the form of segregation on flights reminiscent of Rosa Parks, being called an "American virus", evicting Africans from apartments and forcing them to leave the country on short notice, among other examples.
When China first realised that the epidemic was a crisis, the government put Wuhan on lockdown but allowed departing international flights. It "didn't care that the virus… spread to your country", only that it did not spread within its borders.
At the same time, "China banned the export of masks and vital medical supplies". Foreign products manufactured in China were hoarded locally. The government also “ordered all state-linked companies abroad to… liberate” them from foreign countries.
He calls attention to China's attempt to save face, "the appearance that something is more important than its substance [by] spending immense amounts of money and state resources on soft power". The state-run media talks about racism and xenophobia against Chinese and Asians overseas to divert attention away from the "very real racist policies" within. "If you have ever… looked at China in a positive light… it means that their manipulative ways have worked on you."
"This is only the tip of the iceberg. China does not have this thing under control."
