Swedish Former Representative to European Parliament: China Should Apologize to the World for Coronavirus

In an opinion article published by a Swedish newspaper on 19
March, 2020, Gunnar Hökmark, Chairman of Stockholm Free World Forum and Former member of the European parliament, asks the Chinese Communist Party government and its leader to apologize to the world for withholding information of the coronavirus and "using its economic power, systematically threatens democratic countries in order to destabilize and silence criticism".

From China's imprisonment of Swedish citizen Gui Minhai (bookseller in Hong Kong) to Chinese tourists' behaviour, Hökmark wrote that:

"The aggressive Chinese attacks on Sweden for our handling of the Coronavirus should be seen against the fact that the Chinese Communist Party wants to escape all kind of responsibility for the spread of the epidemic.

Lousy animal husbandry and poor food standards, along with fear of the dictatorship and its culture of silence, are the main reasons why the world is presently wrestling with a terrible global pandemic. Its background lies in the inability of a totalitarian system to take people's perceptions, security and life into account. It is not Sweden or Europe that is the problem in all this. It's China.

And it is China that, using its economic power, systematically threatens democratic countries in order to destabilize and silence criticism.

On Radio Sweden, the Chinese propaganda attack was incomprehensibly described as something very sharp and because of that worth listening to. They neglected that this is how the Communist regime for a long time has acted against Sweden, among other democracies.

We saw the same pattern of denials and false accusations when Iran shot down the Ukrainian passenger plane and when Russian air defense units in Ukraine shot down the airplane MH17."

Swedish media used full-page "Xi Jinping virus" to diss China

(3 Apr) [International Center/Comprehensive Report] The pandemic of COVID-19 in Wuhan, China has swept the world. However, China, as the source of the pandemic, has controlled the spread of the virus. This allows China to start the propaganda agenda, provide various medical supplies, and even begin to smear other countries as being the cause of the virus. These moves angered many countries. The Swedish paper media displayed their anger toward China in the form of a full page coverage to blame China’s leader Xi Jinping, asking China to stop fake news.

COVID-19 has recently broken out in the world, and the number of confirmed cases has grown from 500,000 to 1 million in just 8 days. The severe pandemic has made many countries in need of medical supplies. China, as the origin country of the spread, starts to have some control over the situation. Seeing other countries are now suffering from the virus, she has begun to donate materials for global propaganda. However, it creates negative impacts as the quality of the materials provided to various countries has been quite poor.

In addition to this, China has also continued to make noises accusing that the virus was brought into China by the US military. It even insinuated that the Italian epidemic broke out earlier than China. It wanted to "destigmatize" itself, which upset many countries.

On Mar 30, The Swedish media "Dagens industri", using the headline "Kinas desinformation ett bevis pa angslighet" (Misinformation from China are causing anxiety), published a full-page report accusing China of citing the speeches of scholars and experts from other countries out of context to minimize responsibility. They are also angry at China's attempts to control public opinion. For this reason they even combining Xi Jinping's photos with the virus, spoofing the appearance of "Xi Jinping virus" and condemned the CCP.

Swedish Space Corporation halts renewal of contract for on-ground space-tracking with China, citing changes in geopolitical situation

State-run Swedish Space Corporation (SSC) signed a contract with China years ago to assist in the operation of Chinese satellites and allow the usage of a strategic space-tracking station in Australia. However, the company indicated on Monday that they would not renew the contract or seek new business dealings with China after it expires. This decision will inflict heavy losses to Beijing's navigational and space exploration capabilities in the Pacific region.

Anni Bolenius, head of communications at SSC, told Reuters on Monday, "The geopolitical situation has changed since these contracts were signed in the early 2000s. We have to assess where we can do business and it's harder for us to make that assessment regarding the Chinese market now." The contract between SSC and China pertained coordinating the on-ground operations of Chinese satellites, which included meteorological and earth-monitoring satellites.

Sweden Banned 5G Erection from Huawei Due to the National Security, China Opposed the Abuse of the Idea of “National Security”

Following the US and the UK banning Chinese companies Huawei from building 5G networks, Sweden Postal and Telecommunications Administration announced today (20th October) that they decided to prohibit Huawei and ZTE from participating in the local 5G network erection. They also required the local telecom to remove all equipment produced by Huawei and ZTE from existing core functional devices before 2025.

Sweden will have an auction of the 5G spectrum next month. Klas Friberg, the Head of the Domestic Security Service of Sweden, described China as one of the biggest threats in Sweden, referring to China’s large-scale collection of intelligence, theft of technology and research to assist its economic development and military strength. He also worried that allowing Chinese entrepreneurs to participate in the local 5G network erection was hard to guarantee their national security.

Swedish Gold Medalist says China's hosting of Olympics 'extremely irresponsible' amid human rights abuses

//Swedish speed skater Nils van der Poel, who won two gold medals at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, on Sunday, February 13, 2022, condemned the International Olympic Committee (#IOC) as being "extremely irresponsible" in handing over the games to a country that "violates human rights as blatantly" as China does.

25-year-old Nils van der Poel took gold in the men's 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter speed skating competitions at the 2022 Winter Olympics, setting the world record in the latter.

...He compared the games to the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin.

He said that the Olympics is a "fantastic sporting event where you unite the world and nations meet," but he added that "so did Hitler before invading Poland, and so did Russia before invading Ukraine," referring to the German invasion of Poland in 1939 and the invasion of Ukrainian territory in Crimea by Russia in 2014.

As for Beijing's hosting of the Winter Games, Van de Poel said, "I think it is extremely irresponsible to give it to a country that violates human rights as blatantly as the Chinese regime is doing."//
