(Mainland) Chinese to be Allowed to Transfer via Hong Kong
//The Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) announced in a press release on Friday, stating that they would resume transfers from (Mainland) China starting from Saturday, which means (Mainland) Chinese would be allowed to transfer to other countries via Hong Kong .
Due to the lack of transparency in (Mainland) China, the number of invisible patients (those without symptoms) remains unknown. The AAHK's decision to open its transfer services to (Mainland) Chinese, which was rumored to be for Chinese students to study abroad, is an absurd decision.

More than 6,700 protesters were arrested in the anti-government demonstrations triggered by the Belarusian presidential election on August 9. The detention centers were overcrowded as a result. Many media sources showed that the detained protesters were physically abused by the police. Amnesty International pointed out that the protesters were tortured extensively. Deputy Interior Minister Alexander Barsukov said that all protesters would be released by 6 a.m. Friday morning (Aug 14). So far more than 2,000 protesters have been released.
Inhumane custodial conditions
Protesters beaten without getting treatments
Some released protesters posted photos on Nexta, which showed that they have suffered a lot of injuries, including large purple bruises and swelling on their backs or buttocks. They said the injuries were caused by the police. Amnesty International stated that some arrestees were stripped naked, beaten and threatened with rape.
Many journalists and pedestrians were arrested as well. One of the released Russian journalists, Nikita Telizhenko, disclosed her three-day detention life. She mentioned that many detainees were forced to sleep on the ground which had blood and faeces. They were not allowed to use the toilet or even change their lying positions for many hours. Ms. Telizhenko has already returned to Russia.

US Republican Senator Martha McSally put forward a resolution on Thursday demanding China to repay its sovereign debt of more than USD$1.6 trillion (around HKD$12.5 trillion), interests included, to US bondholders.
McSally said, “China has repeatedly failed to honor its obligations to America, taking American families’ money and jobs… We are holding China accountable for its debt and for unleashing the coronavirus on the world. We demand China pay back the $1.6 trillion it owes to American families.”
The bonds were issued in 1912 by the Republic of China, which subsequently migrated to Taiwan. The People’s Republic of China established its sovereignty in 1949 and insists that Taiwan is part of China. According to international law, a successor state is responsible for the debts of its predecessor.

Many of those who arrived in the UK from the Caribbean in the 1950s and 60s were discouraged from attending or even turned away from Anglican churches. Last year, Justin Welby, archbishop of Canterbury, spoke of his shame at the C of E’s record of racism.
“We don’t want the church to repeat its mistakes by neglecting the needs and desires of people coming here from Hong Kong,” said Reverend Mark Nam, a Bristol-based curate of Chinese heritage. “I’ve read many harrowing testimonies [of the Windrush generation]. We want the C of E to be ready and welcoming to everyone this time. We need to learn from history.”
