Award-winning protest photos, "Wounds of Hong Kong", were again removed on the Sony World Photography Awards website

(9 Jun) The Stand News journalist entered the Sony World Photography Awards official website and found that the 10 photos that once appeared this morning have been removed again, with only 4 photos remaining. Award winner Chung Ming Ko responded on facebook, ā€œItā€™s pointless to look into the reasons why they have been posting and deleting the photosā€. The public could view the full collection on Koā€™s facebook page.

The Stand News wrote to the organizer, enquiring why some of the winning photos were deleted again. The organizerā€™s PR reply said, "As an international award and platform, we will consider our reach when publishing content, as well as the responsibility to be aware of the audienceā€™s point of view. We encourage people to learn more about the award-winning photographers, and explore their full collection through the photographersā€™ channel and the links from our websiteā€.

Editorā€™s note: Photos from Koā€™s collection, ā€œWounds of Hong Kongā€, were previously removed by the organizer in the finalist round due to the ā€œsensitive natureā€ of his images

Sony in 1989 VS Sony in 2020

SONY in 1989

ā€œGuys, we have a very special requestā€, said Mr. Rick Clancy, the vice president of SONYā€™s media communication department, while he handed out the ā€œtank manā€photo taken by CNN and digital photos from other channels. ā€œI am pleading everyone not to report any digital shooting technology seen in this week here. I have already asked our competitors to postpone their reports as well. There is a crisis in China (Tiananmen Massacre), people are still in life-threatening situation.ā€

SONY in 2020
#SONY removed several photos on the website of 2020 Sony World Photography Awards.

Those photos taken by three photographers are about anti ELAB protests in Hong Kong.

David Butow, one of the these three photographers, said the last response he received from SONY was, ā€œhis photo was removed because some regions and markets are sensitive to itā€

12 Japan firms will kill business deals involving #Uyghur forced labor

//Twelve major Japanese companies have established a policy of ceasing business deals with Chinese companies found to benefit from the forced labor of the Muslim Uyghur minority in China's far-western Xinjiang region.

In a report last year, the Australian Strategic Policy Institute identified over 80 global companies "directly or indirectly benefiting from the use of Uyghur workers outside #Xinjiang through abusive labor transfer programs."

Kyodo News recently asked 14 Japanese companies mentioned by the think tank how they plan to respond.

With the exception of Panasonic Corp., which declined to comment, all companies either denied directly doing business with companies suspected of benefiting from forced labor or said they could not verify the claims against their suppliers.

The 12 include Toshiba Corp., Fast Retailing Co., operator of the Uniqlo casual clothing brand, Sony Corp. and Hitachi Ltd.//

#China requests shots of Statue of Liberty be removed in #Spiderman: No Way Home; declined by #SONY

Confirmed by multiple sources, CBR.com quoted a passage from puck.news stating the Chinese authority requested shots of the Statue of Liberty in the latest Spiderman film No Way Home be removed.

China's request was allegedly caused by the multiple shots of the main character #TomHolland standing on top of the crown of the Statue of Liberty. According to China, it was a showcase of ā€˜American patriotismā€™. SONY allegedly refused such request immediately.

Doubtlessly, losing the Chinese market did not affect the box office of this movie much, as the Spideman film was ranked the sixth highest-selling movie in the film industry.

Based on multiple sources, the latest Doctor Strange movie, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, would also not be shown in China because of the appearance of ā€˜The Epoch Timesā€™ in the movie. If this is the case, #DoctorStrange would be the sixth #Marvel movie that was censored by China, consecutively.

[The other five were: Black Widow, Eternals, Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings, Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Spider-Man: No Way Home]

Nonetheless, the latest Doctor Strange movie will still be aired in Hong Kong.
