Biological integrity index reaches “no fish” level as China announces a 10-year fishing ban on the Yangtze River
[Real-time News / Comprehensive Report] The Yangtze River Biological Integrity Index has reached the worst level, “no fish,” due to overfishing in the past 10 years. The Chinese authorities implemented a segmented fishery period, but the effectiveness was low. The official website of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs announced that, from 00:00 on January 1, 2020, a 10-year Yangtze River fishing ban would be implemented.
According to comprehensive Chinese media reports, the Yangtze River has been overfished in the past few decades, and has fallen into a vicious cycle such that “the less resources, the harder on the ecology, and the poorer fishermen became.” The Yangtze River’s biological integrity index has reached the worst level. In the past, the authorities imposed a three-month ban on fishing. However, after the ban was lifted in July every year, the fishery resources grown during the three-month fishing ban was exhausted within a few days.
The official website of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China recently released a notice on the scope and time of fishing ban in key areas of the Yangtze River Basin, announcing the implementation of the 10-year fishing ban on the Yangtze River from 00:00 on January 1, 2020. Outside the aquatic wildlife reserves and aquatic germ plasm resources protected areas, fishing shall be temporarily banned for 10 years from January 1, 2021 at the latest on all natural waters. And the productive fishing of natural fishery resources shall be prohibited during this period.
Cao Wenxuan, an ichthyologist who first proposed a “ten-year fishing ban,” stated that the Yangtze River would be banned from fishing for many years, and fish will grow bigger in number and in size. Some rare fish will have sufficient food. And the Yangtze River ecosystem will gradually recover. Regarding the impact to fishery industry, he believes that catches from Yangtze River amount to less than 1% of the total aquatic production. Hence, the hiatus of the Yangtze River fishing industry will not devastate the market price.

Coronavirus lockdown in China has air pollution levels tumbling, NASA satellites reveal
//Air pollution over China has plummeted in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak that forced the shutdown of industry and transport, NASA says.
//NASA and the European Space Agency's pollution monitoring satellites have detected a significant decline in the amount of nitrogen dioxide (NO2).
//"There is evidence that the change is at least partly related to the economic slowdown following the outbreak of coronavirus," NASA said in a statement.
//NASA's Earth Observatory said that: "While the Lunar New Year may have played a role in the recent drop-off, researchers believe the decrease is more than a holiday effect or weather-related variation."
//It noted that pollution levels had not risen as expected after the New Year holiday.

Looking Down at the “Universal” Karma
(2 Apr) Wuhan Virus (COVID-19) has been “globalized”. Since the late George H.W. Bush was president, US has adopted the engagement policy with China for over 10 years, shifting the high cost of product with deadly land and air pollutions to China, in turn to enjoy long-term benefits of “Made in China”. Chinese Community Party (CCP) transformed Mainland China into an economic powerhouse by mobilizing 1.3 million “slaves” and took advantage of their blood and tears. Today, China finally revenged by exporting Wuhan Virus all over the world, with the Western countries crying for help desperately, which is certainly an unique scene to witness.
//The Western perception of Chinese workers’ lives as worthless, and poisoning PRC citizen in return of prosperity brought by “Globalization”, has been raving for 30 years.
//Since the Tiananmen Square protests, the label of “Made in China” has been constantly reminding the West that the world will meet this day.
//UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who accepted Huawei into the UK telecom network, initially advocated for “herd immunity” from Darwinism; he then got infected by Wuhan Virus and thereafter angered by China and planned to kick Huawei out of the said network

China’s new green target still means pumping too much pollution
In China’s 14th five-year plan, the target of greenhouse gas emissions announced were disappointing. Beijing has not set a specific target for emissions, nor has it brought forward from 2030 when it expects them to peak. The only carbon target announced, reducing emissions per unit of gross domestic product by 18% over five years, was the same as in 2016.
The reality is that the world needs to reduce emissions as quickly as possible and China currently accounts for 30% of global production. It’s the only major economy that saw an increase last year after the pandemic hammered economic growth elsewhere, according to research firm Rhodium Group.
Climate scientists fear that China’s modest targets may not slow rising emissions quickly enough.
“China will not be back on the path of decarbonization until Beijing controls the coal construction boom and allows its Covid takeover,” Greenpeace’s Li said.

6 Chinese-funded Companies Involved in Illegal Mining in the Republic of Congo, Beijing ordered to Evacuate
The government of Sud-Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo in Africa ordered 9 mining companies to suspend operations earlier, involving 6 Chinese-funded companies. The reason is that those companies have illegally mined and caused environmental pollution. The violated Chinese companies ignored the issues and continued their operations, causing the local citizens to protest in mining areas last month. The police, therefore, used tear gases for dispersing. Beijing government requested the relevant companies to stop operating and leave the place.
Wu Peng, Director-General of the Department of African Affairs of the Foreign Ministry, indicated that they have already finished the investigation on the incident. He ordered those companies to respect the local government - stop the operation and leave Sud-Kivu as soon as possible. Wu has also stated that those companies will be punished. “We would not allow Chinese companies to violate local laws.” “We support the Democratic Republic of Congo to buffet illegal economic activities”. South China Morning Post described it is very rare for Beijing to stop overseas companies’ operations. At the same time, the local government requested a review of China’s large-scale local project contracts.
