On May 27, police and "special constables" were deoloyed excessively in Hong Kong. The armed forces did not restrain themselves from violating civilians' and journalists' rights of expression and reporting. On top of firing in the city's financial district, the police arrested over 360 civilians, making it the highest day record in 2020.

May 31, 2020 is the ninth month since the 8.31 Prince Edward Incident. In spite of the possible consequences under the National Security Law, some citizens continued to commemorate the victims of police brutality at the altar outside Prince Edward Station, where the offerings and flowers were repeatedly cleared by riot police.
One of these citizens, Mr. Chow, said Hongkongers are currently filled with powerlessness. “We Hongkongers just want to express our wishes. It’s very disappointing to see the flowers getting cleared every time.” He told the journalists that after the passage of the National Security Law by Beijing, he decided to migrate to Taiwan. Cherish Freedom: Salute to Journalists
Taiwan has passed the era of the prohibition on newspapers for over 30 years.
In 1951, during the period of martial law, the Taiwanese government began to impose restrictions on the publication of newspapers, including banning new newspaper companies from registration, limiting the number of pages for newspapers, and restricting the location of printing houses.
The government removed the ban on newspapers in 1998. During these 37 years, there were only 31 newspaper companies. Every piece of the newspaper could only contain 3 sheets of content at maximum. For the practitioners having their printing houses far away from the registered location, they could only be collected newspapers of the day until afternoon.
Nevertheless, there were still lots of people trying to break free of the constraints and striving for the freedom of thought and speech.
After the incubation of the press during the period of martial law and its diverse development after lifting on the ban, the number of people reading newspapers is decreasing every year in the current decades. Although there are challenges of digitalization and the era of the Internet, the press keeps delivering information every day and night without stop after several ups and downs.
As a result, no matter how society changes today, a convenience store always sells newspapers with different stands and opinions available in the next day without silencing.
This day will eventually come - the days without a prohibition on newspaper outnumbers the days without freedom. We will gradually get used to the air of freedom, but do not forget freedom comes with a price.
Regarding Journalists, they are at the forefront of protecting channels to voice out the opinions freely. We cherish the value of freedom with respect and gratitude.

On 23 August 2019, Hongkongers formed a 60km- human chain connecting different districts on Hong Kong island, in Kowloon and the New Territories, to express the 5 democratic demands. 61% Respondents in Hong Kong Are Willing to Spend A Lifetime in Pursuit of Freedom
In a survey conducted by Stand News, 90% of respondents identified themselves with the localist group or the pan-democracy camp.
In the localist group, 75% of them were determined and would continue the fight for democracy; while in the pan-democracy camp, about 60% of them would continue.
Regarding the question of “how long Hong Kong would become a democratic society”, 60% of the respondents thought that it would never happen. 40% of the centrist camp/neutral fraction and 29% of pan-democracy camp constitute this tier.
Another 28% of the overall respondents estimated a duration of around 10-29 years for Hong Kong to be democratized. This estimation scored the highest among the localist group (27%).
In other words, localist supporters are more optimistic about the future than the pan-democracy camp, as relatively more people from the localist group believe that it would take shorter time to achieve democracy.
When asked the duration of time they could wait for democracy, 61% of them said they were willing to spend their lifetime in pursuit of democracy.

Joshua Wong: Let the World See Hongkongers' Perseverance
Former Demosisto Secretary General Joshua Wong appeared in East Point Road, Causeway Bay at around 1pm on 1 Oct.
He held a People Power mask, and stated that Oct 1 was not a day to be celebrated because the government was still persecuting its people.
He said he continued to voice out because he wanted the world to see Hongkongers' perseverance. He hoped that people can continue to pay attention to the 12 Hong Kong citizens arrested by Chinese coastal guards.

The surprise screening of Kiwi Chow's documentary "Revolution Of Our Times" at the 2021 #CannesFilmFestival, one of the three major film festivals worldwide, had attracted widespread attention.
The film documents Hong Kong's 2019 Anti-ELAB movement, and its trailer was posted online on July 18, 2021. Many viewers commented that they could not hold back their tears, and thanked the director for recording history.
#KiwiChow had previously directed the short "Ten Years: Self-Immolator" and feature film "Beyond the Dream".
In an interview with Stand News, he responded to the warm reception from netizens: "Some things go both ways. Some people thanked me; I also want to thank everyone."
Many had expressed concern for Chow's personal safety. He had mentioned in previous interviews that he had to "prepare to face potential consequences." He did not want to dwell on what the "consequences" may be, lest he be dominated by fear.
