People from mainland China joined the national security law protest in Hong Kong
(24 May) Netizens organised a rally in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong to protest the National Security Law on May 24. Mr Cheung (not his real name), a mainland Chinese on a business trip, said that it is his first time joining a rally. He also encountered protests against the extradition law in the past, but did not have too many feelings until recently, he was angered by the China’s proposal of National Security Law. “I do not wish Hong Kong to become the same as China, where freedom of speech does not exist”. Therefore, he took the risk and join the rally. He brought a protest brand with the slogan “God will ruin the Communist Party of China” written on it. He believed that in the near future, he could no longer show this slogan in Hong Kong.
Mr and Mrs Ng brought their 4-year old daughter to join the rally. Mr Ng said that joining the protest is not taking a risk, but an obligation. He also said that he is not afraid, “if I was afraid, then I would have watched live TV at home” He criticised China for the arbitrarily imposed of the National Security Law, the situation in Hong Kong is now even worse than the extradition law of last year. He thought of immigration, but could not afford the cost. Besides, after considering he has other relatives in Hong Kong, he decided to continue to protest.
