A sign that appeared on July 15, 2021 in Admiralty, Hong Kong reads: “If we give up now, our friends who had passed away would not forgive us.”
#MarcoLeung, the Yellow Raincoat Man, fell from a shopping mall on June 15, 2019, calling on fellow Hongkongers to resist the erosion of rights and freedom and the suppression by authorities. The next day, 2 million Hongkongers took it to the street to voice support for the 5 demands, which include the withdrawal of extradition to China and the implementation of duo universal suffrage in Hong Kong.
Two years went by, the situation in Hong Kong has only worsened with the authorities' continuous crackdown on civil society, journalists and any pro-democracy civilian including students and teachers.
On July 15, 2021, police filled the site where a memorial of the yellow raincoat man takes place every month among pro-democracy Hongkongers.
