Hong Kong Citizens’ recognition of their “Chinese” identity hit the lowest since 1997
The National People’s Congress passed National Security Law targeted at Hong Kong on May 28. In a survey on Hong Kong citizen’s identity recently conducted by HK Public Opinion Research Institute, finding released on Tuesday (June 16) showed that Hong Kong citizen’s recognition of their “Chinese” identity hit the lowest score at 5.74 (10 as full score), a drop of 0.4 points since 6 months ago and the lowest since 1997 while citizens’ identity as “Hongkonger” shot up to 8.57, highest among the identities.
