Power Shortage in China Interrupts Gaming Competition on New Year's Day

Recently, China has successively introduced electricity curtailment measures in many places, which have seriously affected people's livelihood and economy.

The semi-finals of the "League of Legends" China Division (#LPL) all-stars “solo king” competition was held at around 8pm on New Year’s Day. The four players were in the middle of the game when the live broadcast signal was interrupted. It turned out that there was a large-scale power outage in the venue, which plunged the scene into darkness and interrupted the live broadcast.

In response, the organizer of the competition issued a statement saying there was an emergency power failure in the surrounding area of the venue. The venue resolved the situation by immediately switching to its backup power supply.

The competition was originally scheduled to be held in Sichuan, China on December 11 and 12, 2020 but it was postponed to January 1, 2021 due to the Wuhan pneumonia epidemic.
