NBC reported from Wuhan on Monday the latest updates on the Wuhan Institute of Virology, where many speculated was the origin of the coronavirus. The news agency emphasized that it was the very first foreign news agency to be granted access to the institute since the outbreak of the epidemic. The report quoted Wang Yanyi, Director of the Wuhan Institute of Virology, as saying that the institute was unfortunately targeted as a scapegoat for the origin of the virus.
Bob Fu, Co-founder of #ChinaAid in the US, questioned why NBC was granted access and pointed out that #MSNBC has not published other Chinese or Hong Kong news on the same day, including the arrest of prominent activists under the national security law and the police raid at Apple Daily’s headquarter.

Nearly 10,000 protesters have been arrested in Hong Kong since the beginning of the anti-extradition law amendment bill (anti-ELAB) movement last year. Some protesters are staying in Hong Kong to continue their fight for justice despite having been arrested before, while others have gone into exile for fear of persecution. Ah-Y (pseudonym), a 17-year-old DSE candidate, is among those who have fled. As the U.S. government intends to tighten the eligibility of refugees and asylum seekers, as well as extending the processing time for granting work permits, applicants such as Ah-Y are subjected to a lengthy and uncertain waiting process.
The U.S. grants residency to 18,000 eligible asylum applicants each year, of which only about 30% of political asylum applicants end up receiving stay permits. According to the statistics of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (#USCIS), a total of 5 Hong Kong residents have applied for political asylum since 2015, but the number of applicants is expected to increase now that the Hong Kong National Security Law has come into effect.
Currently in California, the 17-year-old DSE candidate Ah-Y was arrested in one of the anti-ELAB protests. She was kept in custody for the maximum hours and after her release without bail, she chose to leave Hong Kong at the end of May. She used a travel visa to enter California and applied for political asylum with the help of an organization formed by Hongkongers living in the U.S.
Because the COVID-19 spread is yet to be under control in California, Ah-Y seldom goes out. Her parents are worried about her situation since she is living alone in a foreign country. But to her, the most insufferable thing is to keep hearing news of her friends' arrests. "I can't eat or sleep well, and I’m extremely worried for their safety. When my friends go and take part in the protests, I won’t be able to relax until I know that they’re back home safe and sound," said Ah-Y.

Taiwan has passed the era of the prohibition on newspapers for over 30 years.
In 1951, during the period of martial law, the Taiwanese government began to impose restrictions on the publication of newspapers, including banning new newspaper companies from registration, limiting the number of pages for newspapers, and restricting the location of printing houses.
The government removed the ban on newspapers in 1998. During these 37 years, there were only 31 newspaper companies. Every piece of the newspaper could only contain 3 sheets of content at maximum. For the practitioners having their printing houses far away from the registered location, they could only be collected newspapers of the day until afternoon.
Nevertheless, there were still lots of people trying to break free of the constraints and striving for the freedom of thought and speech.
After the incubation of the press during the period of martial law and its diverse development after lifting on the ban, the number of people reading newspapers is decreasing every year in the current decades. Although there are challenges of digitalization and the era of the Internet, the press keeps delivering information every day and night without stop after several ups and downs.
As a result, no matter how society changes today, a convenience store always sells newspapers with different stands and opinions available in the next day without silencing.
This day will eventually come - the days without a prohibition on newspaper outnumbers the days without freedom. We will gradually get used to the air of freedom, but do not forget freedom comes with a price.
Regarding Journalists, they are at the forefront of protecting channels to voice out the opinions freely. We cherish the value of freedom with respect and gratitude.

In which, it stated there is a scholar being suppressed by United States as he supports the first virus traceability report which published by China and WHO, the article was criticizing WTO virus traceability work as political tool of the United States. However, Embassy of Switzerland in Beijing posted a statement in Twitter on Tuesday night (10August), cleared out there is no citizen in Switzerland called Wilson Edwards, and no relevant article was signed with his name in the biology community. The embassy claimed for Chinese press and netizens, who have retweeted that news take down the posts and post correction statement. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan (MOFA) said at a virtual press briefing yesterday (August 10) that it had asked the Venice Film Festival to correct the country listing of two Taiwanese films mis-labelled as "Chinese Taipei". The two films submitted to the 78th Venice Film Festival, which will be open on September 1, are Chung Mong-hong directed "The Falls" and Tsai Ming-liang's documentary "The Night". MOFA said the request is to ensure that these films are not "unreasonably suppressed" to diminish Taiwan's sovereignty.
The MOFA said that the two participating films were submitted to the organisers under the country name of Taiwan, but were altered to "Chinese Taipei" on the official website without the consent of the applicants, after China protested to the Italian organisers.
