2020 Photo Contest, World Press Photo Story of the Year Nominee: Hong Kong Unrest; Photographer: Nicolas Asfouri
It has been 9 months since 12 June 2019, the beginning of the war against the bill of extradition to China. We witnessed all sorts of violence with unjust decisions from the Hong Kong Government and police.
During this period, how many of us spent our nights restless, worrying if there are youngsters being arrested after protests, or if they will become cases of "enforced disappearance"?
We are not only concerned about their prospects but also worry that they could be beaten to death, before being released or sent to jail.
Pro-democracy groups lost a lot in this unrest. Yet, we are not give up! Not to waste the efforts we have put in! Nevertheless, I still believe Hong Kongers will gain a victory against the authoritarian government in the end and show the world how important democracy is.
