France investigates retailers over China forced labour claims

Retailers have hit back after authorities in France opened a "crimes against humanity" probe into their activities in China's Xinjiang region.

French prosecutors are looking into accusations four fashion bands sourced goods made by forced labour from Uyghur Muslims in China.

Uniqlo, Zara-owner Inditex and French textile firm SMCP deny the claims, while Skechers declined to comment.

China's repression of overseas Uyghurs has spread to nearly 30 countries: Report

China's persecution of Uyghurs overseas has spread to nearly 30 countries around the world, largely because the governments of these host countries fear Beijing's power and influence, claims a new report.

At least 28 countries across the world complicit in China's harassment and intimidation of Uyghurs, with countries in the Middle East and North Africa as worst offenders, reported Voice of America (VOA), says the report compiled jointly by rights group Oxus Society for Central Asian Affairs and the Uyghur Human Rights Project.

Titled 'No Space Left to Run, China's Transnational Repression of Uyghurs', it argues that Beijing uses a number of methods to intimidate Uyghurs living in other countries, including everything from the use of spyware and hacking, to releasing red notices against targeted individuals through Interpol.

Hong Kong photographers to Record the Authorities' Destruction of #Lantau's Ecology

"Lantau Tomorrow Vision" is a plan of the Hong Kong SAR government to conduct reclamation in Lantau Island. Despite opposition, the government will start making consultation and finance plan in October 2022.

#Greenpeace invited local photographers to produce a documentary "Lantau - The Hidden Treasure of Hong Kong" to record the scenery and wildlife of the island, as the reclamation plan is expected to damage the ecosystem.

The photographers believe in the importance of this decumentary, in order to pass on the memory of the era and the testimony of the destruction to future generations.

"This place could be completely different in 10 years. We will look at it and treasure it as much as we can. We will stand witness to the destruction."
