Hong Kong ought to implement "Education with One Country Two Systems Characteristics":
China State Media

China's state media Xinhua News attacked a question in Hong Kong's public DSE exam, which asks students to discuss Sino-Japanese relationship in 1900-1945.

According to China state-run media, the exam's question "beautifies the brutal Japanese invasion of China" and the DSE exam has become a base for "attacking the implementation of One Country Two System in Hong Kong, allowing answers that vilify the Hong Kong government and China's point of view to get high scores on the exam."

It is unclear whether Xinhua News knows the confidential grading rubrics of the exam, which took place only the day before.

"Eduction ought to be implemented as education with One Country Two Systems characteristics, and the Central government has the right to interfere when One Country Two Systems is threatened."

What did the IPCC report tell us about the Yuen Long incident on July 21 2019?

When citizens were attacked by white-clad gangsters in Yuen Long on July 21, 2019, many victims and witnesses of the brutality condemned the police for turning a blind eye. Not only that the police station was shut early, but the police hotline was also not answered.

Watch video here.

The police watchdog's report, however, blamed the influx of phone calls to the police hotline as ā€œirresponsible and damaging, an apparent attempt to paralyses the Emergency Communications Centerā€

Only a Reform Would Do: The Quest for an Independent Investigation that Is True to Its Name

May 15, 2020 by Citizensā€™ Press Conference

//The IPCCā€™s lack of independence, and its use as yet another PR gig by the Hong Kong government, has brought doubts to the public on its credibility and relevance before it has even spoken. Chan continued to outline three main issues that the IPCCā€™s report does not have any statutory powers to address and thus would need to be done so by a newly formed Independent Commission of Inquiry.//

Censorship?: Education Bureau Orders Exam Body to Remove History-related Question

After Beijing hurled criticism in a history-subject exam question, the Education Bureau (EDB) in Hong Kong demanded the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA) to remove history-related questions.

According to Apple Daily, the EDB was involved in setting public exam questions, despite its denial. The current committee include school teachers, scholars and EDB Curriculum Development Officer.

HKEAA former head Choi Chee-cheong also warned of the consequences to pupils if the exams body follows an order by the Education Bureau and pulls a history exam question that the government considers bias.

Brother of HK activist detained in China reopens online #Lego shop to raise funds for sentencing fee

Over half a year has passed since 12 fleeing pro-democracy Hongkongers were arrested by the Chinese police at sea and detained in China.

10 of the 12 activists that were charged with "illegal border crossing" have already been escorted back to Hong Kong. The remaining two, #Tang KaiYin and #QuinnMoon, were charged by China for "organizing illegal border crossing". They are currently still serving their three-year and two-year sentences in China respectively.

In April 2021, Tangā€™s younger brother announced on social media that he will reopen his brother's online model shop; he will be selling Tang's stock of discontinued Lego sets.

The profits, after covering rent for the storage space, will mainly be used to pay the fees of Tangā€™s incarceration in China, as well as his $20K RMB fine.

The remainder will be used to support Tang when he returns to Hong Kong after serving his sentence.

Since the arrest of the 12 Hongkongers, the younger Tang had been busy dealing with the authorities on his brother's behalf, as well as handling the media and taking care of his family. There had been times when he became exhausted and even fell ill, and he admits that he blamed his brother sometimes. "But then I would think, he didn't steal or hurt anyone. There's a reason he did what he did, so ..." he pauses, "I became more accepting and more forgiving."

He says that he had never been a Lego enthusiast. He joked that, although he now spends all his spare time on the online shop, he still couldn't get interested in Lego. He wanted to tell his brother: "Hurry up and come back and deal with your stuff, I don't want to touch it. Take care of yourself; we're family, I'll wait for you."

China Planning 'Unprecedented' Tiananmen Memorial Crackdown: Report

Beijing will take "unprecedented heavy-handed measures" to crack down on next month's vigil in Hong Kong to mark the Tiananmen Square massacre, a Beijing-friendly local outlet said Tuesday.

The annual gathering in Victoria Parkā€”banned on health grounds for a second year runningā€”is a "minefield" for those planning to attend on June 4, according to online news portal HK01. It will be the first memorial since China's sweeping Hong Kong national security law came into effect on June 30 last year.
