Man Addresses Double-Standards of the Police, Gets ID and Address Recorded

2030 | Diamond HIll

A man passing by the scene in Plaza Hollywood quipped: "We're not allowed to sing, but you're allowed to sell meth!" Upon hearing this, a group of riot police rushed in and detained him. After some reportedly harsh words, they wrote down his address and ID number, and threatened that they could come to his house and arrest him at any time.

"Good thing you guys are here", he said to reporters afterwards, "Or else they would have beaten me already".

"I'm not scared of them", the man continued. "They can have my address. I've done nothing wrong! If they have a real reason, they can come arrest me!"

Despite having faced such intimidation, the man remained in high spirits and railed against the police's conduct and double standards. "Police can sell meth, 23kg of it! We're just here to sing, and they say we're not allowed to. What kind of world is this?"

Hong Kong Police Officers Arrested in Drug Case

A police sergeant was arrested at a hotel in the early hours of May 7. He was found with 2kg of methamphetamine ("Ice") and was one of the detectives responsible for an earlier raid where five arrests were made over a 296-kilogramme haul worth some HK$158 million on the Tuesday before.

Late on May 7, a second police officer, aged 37, was arrested in Shek Kip Mei. 23kg of Ice was found in his flat.

On May 8, two more police officers, aged 31 and 36, had been arrested on suspicion of involvement in a methamphetamine case. The two were held on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

Initial investigations suggest that the cases involving the two officers were linked to the biggest ever seizure of methamphetamine on record at an empty shop in Jordan.
