Migrant domestic helpers: The problem is how we can protect ourselves inside the employer's house?
In a press conference held on March 22, The Hong Kong Federation of Asian Domestic Workers Union urged the Hong Kong government to protect migrant workers' rights during the coronavirus outbreak.
In view of quarantine regulations including mandatory 14-day quarantine after returning to Hong Kong from overseas, union secretary Shiella Estrada pointed out the need for equal protection for the employer and the employee.
The union has been urging the government to abolish the mandatory live-in policy, which requires domestic helpers to live with their employer, especially when the policy put the workers in vulnerable position during epidemic.
The union also qouted sex harassment and other physical injuries as examples.
