Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office: More Laws to Come in Hong Kong regarding China's National Security
In an interview with China's state media CCTV, Deng Chong-hua, the deputy director of the PRC's Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, revealed that the PRC's National People’s Congress can authorize the Standing Committee to pass legislations regarding Hong Kong on more than just one occasion.
Evaluating the situation in Hong Kong, the Standing Committee will continue to set up relevant legislation to deter and punish any crimes concerning China’s National Security.
Deng insisted that the national security is a matter responsible by the Central Government in Beijing. He emphasized there are numerous incidents that damage national security in Hong Kong, yet the central government is only managing four kinds of criminal activities stated in the law. He claimed this showed how little control the central government is exerting over Hong Kong, and that most cases will be followed by the relevant parties of the Hong Kong government.
