Despite #COVID19 Threats, #HongKongAirport to Allow Travellers from China to Make Transit to World Destinations, But Not the Other Way Round

In a statement released after midnight on August 13, the Hong Kong International Airport (#HKIA) announced that travellers from China could transit in Hong Kong and head to different destinations around the world. Despite the menace of the COVID19 pandemic, the aarrangement will be effective from 15 August to October 15, 2020.

Meanwhile, the statement also said "transfer/transit services to destinations in Mainland China will remain unavailable at HKIA". As travellers can leave but not enter China via Hong Kong, the travel restrictions on one side of the borders seem to suggest that China has imposed strict measures to prevent Covid-19 cases from entering the country.

Brave One-man Protester Commemorates Airport Protests Alone and Forcibly Removed by Security

Protestors occupied the Hong Kong International Airport (#HKIA) on this day in 2019 during Anti-Extradition Bill (Anti-ELAB) movement. Netizens initiated the one-year anniversary of the unforgettable airport protest as a “Lunch with You” protest at 1 pm on August 13.

However, the only person who showed up was David, a regular “Lunch with You” protester. When he arrived at the airport bus terminal station at noon, he was dressed in blue and quickly stopped and searched by a large amount of airport security guards.

Despite the security guards' order to leave the airport, David ignored their warning. At 1 pm, he took out a blank white paper, raised hands with a gesture of “Five and One”, and shouted slogans such as” “still alive, flight till the end,” and “five demands, not one less”.

During that time, security guards continued asking him to leave. But, he was discontented and said, “I am sightseeing here. Why can’t I stay here? I am waiting for the bus.” After that, dozens of security guards forced him to go to the bus stop and pestered him for some time. A security guard instructed him to get onto a bus going to Yuen Long and surrounded the exit to stop him from getting off. He clearly stated, “I don’t have money. If you don’t let me get off, this is false imprisonment. I have a right to get off.”

Before the bus started moving, six to seven security guards got into the bus suddenly, and staff in the bus station gave a signal to the bus driver to Leave. Then, the bus left.
