EU awards top prize to Uighur dissident's daughter

[Abstracts] The daughter of jailed Uighur intellectual Ilham Tohti received the EU's top rights prize on his behalf on Wednesday as Tohti was sentenced to life imprisonment and prohibited from visiting. He had created an online platform for Uighurs, Chinese and other minority people to post articles and their understanding freely on the website and join discussion forums.
The parliament hailed the former economics professor as a "voice of moderation and reconciliation", when it announced the award in October, while Beijing condemned the move, calling Tohti a "terrorist".

China has faced growing international condemnation for setting up a vast network of camps in its western Xinjiang region aimed at homogenising the Uighur population -- who are mostly Muslim and speak a Turkic language -- to reflect China's majority Han culture.

The Xinjiang human rights crisis also stormed the football world after Mesut Ozil, a German of Turkish origin, playing for Arsenal, condemned China's crackdown on Uighurs and other minorities.

Video Shows the Horror of China's So-Called "Education Camp" in Uyghur

Released on Oct 10, 2020, the video shows a frail Uyghur man 'returning' from what the Chinese Communist Party government called "education camp".

The man was in a condition that he cannot walk on his own and had to be carried by another person. The health of the man is equally worrying.

The original Tweet about the video compares the traumatic scene to Holocaust caused by the #Nazi:

//This is the condition of a #Uyghur man who was lucky enough, unlike millions of others, to be released from #China's brutal #concentrationcamps in Occupied #EastTurkistan. What China is doing in East Turkistan is a 21st Century #Holocaust.//
