Xi Jinping has buried the truth about coronavirus

//The reaction to the outbreak has revealed the unreconstructed despotism of the Chinese state

//Over the past 70 years, the Chinese Communist party has subjected its country to a succession of manmade catastrophesā€¦ Official coverups and corruption have multiplied the death toll of natural calamitiesā€¦

//the virus of Xiā€™s totalitarian rule threatens the health and freedoms not only of the Chinese people, but of all of us everywhere.

//Xi vowed that, by then, the world would concede that his one-party dictatorship is superior to the mess of liberal democracy.

//Xi now has more power than any party leader since Mao Zedong, and has crushed all dissent by attempting to build a hi-tech totalitarian stateā€¦ allowing capitalism to grow rapaciously while reaffirming Leninist control. The promise of wealth and national glory has blinded many Chinese peopleā€¦

//In times of crisis, the party always places its own survival above the welfare of the people.

//in China, even a small act of kindness, a cautious and private alert to colleagues, can land a person in political danger.

//Videos on WeChat and Weibo revealed the hollowness of Xiā€™s ambitions.

//Xi suppresses truth and information to create his utopian ā€œharmoniousā€ society.

//if your leaders have no regard for human life or liberty, no amount of money can save you.

//The only certainty about the numbers it releases is that they are the numbers it wants you to believe.

Civil rights activist was found guilty of ā€œPicking quarrels and provoking troubleā€ and imprisoned for 9 months due to spraying political slogans.

(24 Feb) Yang Xubin, a democratic activist in Guangzhou, has supported Hong Kongā€™s ā€œAnti-Extradition Amendment Bill Movementā€ on his Twitter account. He was found guilty of ā€œPicking quarrels and provoking troubleā€ and imprisoned for 9 months because he sprayed political slogan like ā€œFreedomā€,ā€ Democracyā€,ā€ Electionā€, ā€œRevolution of the timeā€ and ā€œLiberate GuangZhouā€ on the street. It is reported he confessed guilty in court.

Xiaowaves, a group formed by Liu Xiaoboā€™s friends which follows civil rights activists in China stated on Twitter that Yang sprayed political slogan in multiple areas in Xiaozhocun, Guangzhou last August and was arrested. Yangā€™s case was put onto a video court on 13 Jan. Yang confessed he was the one spraying the slogans. The indictment accused him for ignoring the law and disrupting public order.

Guangzhou Haizhu Court issued a conviction, charging Yang for spraying slogans around Xiaozhoucun in the Haizhu district of Guangzhou between 24 Aug and 26 Aug. He was charged for disrupting public order and ignorance of the law. He was sentenced to jail for 9 months until 25 May 2020.

The court confiscated his properties including a notebook with various protesting slogans, helmet and gas mask. The indictment pointed out Yangā€™s graffiti led to crowd gathering to watch was an act ignoring the law while also disrupting public order because of ā€œmaking troubleā€.

Yang Xubin was born in Jieyang, Guangdong in 1980. He graduated from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts and works freelance. Before his arrest, he has posted on Twitter to show support to the ā€œAnti-Extradition Amendment Bill Movementā€ and uploaded videos about the protests where he filmed in Hong Kong. His Twitter biography is ā€œFight for Democracy and Freedomā€, and he once posted claiming ā€œhe rather die standing than live kneelingā€.

1987 South Korea vs. 2020 Hong Kong

(26 Mar) I have never thought the situation in Hong Kong right now is worse than the 1987 Korea.

In the movie "1987: When the Day Comes" (2017 South Korean political thriller film based on a true story), during the police interrogation, the bad cops killed a student during waterboarding and tried to cover up the truth afterwards. In the movie/true events: the prosecutor insisted to preform an autopsy of the student but the police would not let it happen; a tough journalist who stayed in the bathroom all night waiting for a chance to ask a question but the police refused to disclose any details; a doctor who were not corrupted by the large sum of bribe money but the police would not let him report the cause of death. It was many nameless citizens who never give up and eventually led the information to the journalists and news media. As a result, the government immediately arrested the bad cops. Historically, the series of events pushed the government to give up the low rank officers in hope for peace.

Right now in Hong Kong, the government has executed the legal procedures to help cover the identity of the police who shot the Indonesian female journalist and many more violence attack toward Hong Kong protesters. When the police name was made public, the government/Hong Kong police arrested the Hong Kong District Chairman who shared the news on social media. The situation in Hong Kong right now is worse than Korea in 1987. The government and the police are even more determined and shameless than the "militant", "brave" and "ruthless" government of totalitarian Korea.

Beside confronting the Chinese Communist Party, Hongkongers are facing an unique state of affairs that no one has ever encountered before. As the China-US trade war continues and with the Chinese Communist Party's cover-up of the #WuhanPneumonia epidemic, which has led to global pandemic. When will the world united and turn against the Communist Party of China? If not this time, then wait until when?

Totalitarian governments can't stop their lies. In movie "1987: When the Day Comes", a character says that "the only weapon we have left is the truth. Only the truth can bring down the regime".The former Czech Republic President and a famous writer, Vaclav Harwell's simple but extraordinary idea about "living in truth" is even more true in this age that full of cover-up/fake news. Please use the little freedom of speech you have left, and if you haven't seen the "Against the Right series: June Democratic Uprising in Korea" series of movies, please watch it while the epidemic is raging. History always repeats itself.

The Hong Kong Communist Party/Chinese Communist Party has a belief stating that political power comes from the "barrel of a gun" (as a metaphor of political power comes from violence) and if it is the case, let them fight for the world power.

Ethiopians petitioned against Ghebreyesus' candidacy and presidency when he was elected as the Director General of WHO in 2017

(15 Apr) When Ghebreyesus was elected as the Director General of WHO in 2017, Ethiopians launched a petition campaign at Change.org to oppose his candidacy. After he was elected, there was petition calling for his resignation. (1)

He is an irresponsible criminal to many Ethiopians.

The Change.org petition described ā€œTedros Adhanom, a politburo member of the Tigray Peopleā€™s Liberation Front (TPLF) that has been ruling Ethiopia for the last 25 years is in the inner circle of the regime well known for its systematic patterns of political repression and egregious human rights violations against Ethiopian citizens.ā€ (Politburo member usually refers to a senior communist party cadre member.) *

//That was similar to what the brutal suppression HK police under HK-CCP regime did to the HK protesters on the streets.

//The candidate for Director General of a prestigious organization such as the WHO should not only be a person of high personal achievement but should also embody the highest adherence to internationally recognized human rights standards.

//Not only he violated human rights, he deliberately let many Oromians died from Cholera.

Act now to shape a better world:
the choice is ours

Our generation is facing the biggest global crisis. The decisions that people and governments take in the next few weeks will probably shape our healthcare, economic, political, and cultural systems for years to come.

In this time of crisis, we have two particularly important decisions to make. The first is between totalitarian surveillance and citizen empowerment. The second is between nationalist isolation and global solidarity.

To stop the pandemic, some governments rely heavily on totalitarian surveillance to ensure that entire populations comply with certain guidelines. For instance, by closely monitoring peopleā€™s smartphones and making use of hundreds of millions of face-recognising cameras, the Chinese authorities can not only quickly identify suspected coronavirus carriers, but also track their movements and identify anyone they came into contact with.

However, we can and should enjoy both health and privacy, not by instituting totalitarian surveillance regimes, but by empowering citizens. South Korea, Taiwan, and Singapore rely far more on extensive testing, on honest reporting, and on the willing co-operation of a well-informed public. To achieve an effective level of compliance and co-operation, we need people to have trust in science, in public authorities, and in the media.

The second important choice we confront is between nationalist isolation and global solidarity. Has Mainland China downplayed the number of COVID-19 cases? Is it wise to exclude Taiwan from the WHO and the U.N.? Countries should be willing to share information openly and seek advice humbly, and data and insights they received have to be trustworthy. We also need a global effort to produce and distribute medical equipment, and to pool medical personnel. Countries should also reach a global agreement on travel.

Act now, or never.

Mack Horton's family detail horror fallout from Sun Yang saga

The family of Australian swimmer Mack Horton have detailed the alarming backlash they copped as a result of their sonā€™s protests against Chinese swimmer Sun Yang.

Sun Yang, a six-time Olympic medalist and the first Chinese man to win a swimming gold medal at the Games, is a national hero for many Chinese. However, Hortonā€™s public stance against Sun has prompted severe backlash from Chinese fans, it even triggered a horrible toll on his family.

Numerous horrible death threats and harassment started almost immediately after Hortonā€™s ā€˜drug cheatā€™ comment at the 2016 Olympics. Even Hortonā€™s younger brother Chad was targeted as well, as Chadā€™s school reported threats directed at Hortonā€™s brother.

Horton and his family were once again targeted after the Aussie starā€™s refusal to share the podium with Sun at the 2019 World Championships in South Korea.

The business of Hortonā€™s father Andrew was also under attacked, with the only method of preventing online attacks was to completely deny access to the website from China. A normal day for Horton family was to deal with dog faeces thrown at their house, to find shattered glass thrown into their family pool, and to bear with cadres of unidentifiable figures banging pots and pans around their home in the middle of the night.

After the Court of Arbitration for Sport had handed down its ruling in February, months of harassment on Horton family were fading away with Sunā€™s eight-year-suspension of competition for a drug-test violation.

What has happened to Mack Hortonā€™s family sounds like a movie plot. However, for a #totalitarian state like #China, those are some normal tactics to "fix" an opponent.

Sherry Chan: In the era of disappointment and hope for coexistence, do you still believe in love?

(19 Aug) In mid-July, the National Radio and Television Administration released a list of 20 "items requiring censorship and alternative expressions", some of which involved the regulation [of depicting] love or romantic relationships: "Romantic dramas cannot be too sweet" and "contemporary themes should maintain proper values; social conflicts must not be highlighted. Endeavour to portray the beautiful lives of normal people..."

To sum up these 20 items, the essence of love according to the #totalitarian regime is this: It shall follow social norms absolutely, teens shall not indulge in puppy love, love shall not be regarded as the be-all and end-all; they should work on upward mobility and enter Tsinghua or Peking University to contribute to society and serve the country.

From the perspective of sociologist Sherry Chan, the essence of love is #individualism. It causes a person to desire #freedom and possess their own mind and soul. As such, love and totalitarian rationale are completely incompatible... In the 21st century, we are still chasing after this most quintessential question: Can love overcome all obstacles?

"Not a Bad Thing to Keep Outstanding Talents in China," said Hu Xijin after the US Immigration Ban towards CCP Members

On Oct. 2, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) issued policy guidance, that makes immigration application inadmissible to anyone who is, or has been a member of Communist Party or any other totalitarian party. Hu Xijin, the Chief Editor of Global Times, a tabloid backed by CCP, posted on Twitter that the decision of the U.S. has "taken out" the illusion of many people as most of the Chinese outstanding talents are CCP members. "Not bad", he wrote. He added that the interests of non-CCP members on immigrating to the U.S. had a significant decrease nowadays.

The U.S. was only reiterating the policy, that Chapter 3 of the original Policy Manual already have the immigration requirements and the corresponding procedures for the totalitarian party members. According to the Policy Manual, if totalitarian party members would like to immigrate, they have to prove themselves that they are the exceptions and waivers with evidence, and they do not pose a threat to the national safety in the US.

#HKU President Proposes to Appoint Deans Directly; Students' Union: "Co-Governance Must Not Be Violated"

It has been reported that the Council of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) will alter the appointment process of the deans. Originally, university deans sre selected by democratically elected staff members and students. With the reported new proposal, the new deans would be appointed by the University President directly.

The Faculty Societies of HKU Students' Union (#HKUSU) released a joint statement in response to the Council's proposed amendment on the Dean Recruitment Guidelines. The Students' Union calls this decision "reckless", and urged that it be utterly rejected.

The statement also emphasizes that the principle of co-governance must not be violated: A university co-governed by both students and the staff can prevent the management from getting out of touch with the staff and students. Should the university proceed to confer disproportionate authority on the president, the student union will put up resistance and ensure that a fair and just system could be maintained.
