Hongkongers in Exile Open Pro-Protest Restaurant "Aeglis" Open in Taiwan

During the ongoing pro-democracy movement, a number of Hong Kong protesters are in exile in Taiwan. Initiated by lawyer Wong Kwok-tung, Hongkongers living in exile in Taiwan opened a restaurant "Aeglis". The shop is located in the alley of Daan District, Taipei.

Many people visited the restaurant on its first day of business. Those with a reservation still had to queue up for almost an hour. The manager, Chou, was busy greeting and thanking the guests for their support.

The restaurant was originally scheduled to open on a later date, but after the news got spread, many inquiries poured in from Taiwan and Hong Kong and so the restaurant decided to advance its opening.

The protest slogan "Liberate Hong Kong, Revolution of our Times" is sculpted on the walls of the restaurant. Inside, the screen displays the music video of protest anthem "May Glory Be to Hong Kong". Customers sang along to cheer for their fellow protesters who fight and bleed in Hong Kong.

The phenomenal popularity of the restaurant is a rare sight in the service industry during the coronavirus crisis. There were many guests coming to the door one after another. Some people did not have a meal, but they did not forget to write some cheering cards and hang them on the "Lennon Wall" in the restaurant.

Someone wrote, "It ’s an honor to be the first group of guests, may Aeglis be without trouble." Protest slogans such as "Liberate Hong Kong, Revolution of our Times," "Five Demands, Not one less" were found on the ordering receipts.

According to Apple Daily reporters from Taiwan, the food is also good. At 3 pm on the day of visit, several menu items had already been sold out.

Hong Kong Pro-democracy Protesters Appear in Mural in
#LosAngeles; #HongKongArtist: Idea is bulletproof

Black-clad pro-democracy protestors holding their yellow umbrellas against tear gas grenades and other rounds: The typical protest scene in Hong Kong during 2019 was recreated on a mural in Los Angeles in the United States.

The mural was located in Liberty Sculpture Park in Yermo, a desert town near the Los Angeles county. The project had been planned for 1.5 years, and was in production for nearly a month, before the mural was finally finished on April 10, 2021.

The project was organized by a New York based Hongkongers' organization "#LionRockCafe", and executed by #DamienMitcheel, a New York-based Australian artist.

The mural was named "Come What May". In addition to visualizing the protest scene, the pro-democracy slogan "Liberate Hong Kong, Revolution of Our Times" was written on the two sides.

The designer of the mural, a Hong Kong artist called Divad, chose not to disclose his identity. He shared his idea behind his work through "The Lion Rock Cafe": "Beneath the umbrellas, there is an idea, and the idea is bulletproof."
