Benedict Rogers, a British human rights activist and journalist based in London, thinks ā€œCarrie Lam's announcement to withdraw extradition bill is welcome but is far too little, far too lateā€. Not only because of current police brutality, arbitrary arrests at a severe and shocking level and probably turning Hong Kong into a police state, but also the rejection of Independent inquiry into police brutality showing her lack of sincere to resolve the crisis. Moreover, he stated that ā€œthe problem isn't just the bill, it's the system itselfā€, so an ultimate solution to cease the protest is ā€œdemocratic political reforms including full universal suffrage for all LegCo seats in 2020 election and full universal suffrage for Chief Executive election 2022ā€

James Patrick McGovern, a member of the United States House of Representatives, thinks after announcing the withdrawal of the bill, the next steps for the Hong Kong government to do is to set up independent inquiry into police brutality and universal suffrage for Hong Kong.

Jacques Schuster, the chief editor of Die Welt, criticized that Germany often teaches the United States and other allies and has a sense of moral superiority; but usually just dodges before giants like China. Foreign Minister Heiko Maas commented on the situation in Hong Kong, "The situation continues to deteriorate. We call on all parties to make concessions.", it is meaningless.

In an editorial published on the 2nd, Schuster pointed out that there are Hong Kong people being dragged into the secret police car and thrown into the prison every day, just because they dare to remind Beijing of the rights granted to them by the Sino-British Joint Declaration in 1984. German officials will only appeal, suggest and ask the parties to calm down, as if this is a confrontation that is evenly matched and the two sides should bear the same responsibility.

Schuster believes that the EU is used to self-dwarf in the face of China, leading Chinese leaders not to look at Europe at all. In fact, the EU has grown to be able to show to Beijing clearly that the totalitarian government will pay a price for every step in Hong Kong. If China cannot even tolerate Hong Kong peopleā€™s rights granted by the Sino-British Joint Declaration, there are other political weapons in the hands of the EU, that are, establishing diplomatic relations with Taiwan and recognizing the Dalai Lama as the national leader of Tibet.

Schuster pointed out that if this step is taken, Europe should give Hong Kong people refugee status and citizenship, because Hong Kong people's desire and courage for freedom have no doubt that they will bring benefits to Europe and the Western world.

Germany's "Business Post"
(Handelsblatt) also pointed out in the editorial on the 4th that in the long run, it is never worthwhile to bow to Beijing. It will only increase the risk of being slaughtered as a fat sheep. "For the benefit of domestic enterprises, Merkel should grasp opportunity, clearly express to the Beijing leaders that we oppose the suppression of Hong Kong."

Global Support For Hong Kong: Australia

Because Australiaā€™s economy is so closely linked to China, Chinaā€™s influence is now encroaching Australiaā€™s core values. After an Australian detained by China and the police brutality happening on Hong Kong protestors, itā€™s probably time now for Australia to question the terms on which that marriage continues.

From the suppression of freedom of expression from Hong Kong university students, the Confucius Classroom program, the taking over of the Australian property market, local Australians need to start being aware of the influences that are encroaching their core values.

Hong Kong human rights activists are seeking YOUR shelter

Since the protests started last year, close to 9,000 pro-democracy protesters have been arrested and some of them have been charged with rioting which carries a maximum of 10-year prison sentence. ā€œRiotingā€ means a noisy, violent and uncontrolled public meeting. There is no denying that there is violence in the pro-democracy movement of Hong Kong, in fact violence is used by both the police and protesters. Having said that, protesters resort to violence as defence against indiscriminate and arbitrary arrest that would be followed by trampling on human dignity, torture, or sexual assault; reports also claim that there are dissidents and their family members and friends missing, abducted, or even killed.

Is it fair to label pro-democracy activities as "riots" when protesters use bricks, sticks, and their bodies to protect others and their belief whereas riot policemen use rubber bullets, water cannons, tear gas or even live rounds? Furthermore, those injured protesters, some of them were either shot by guns or tortured by riot policemen, have been charged as rioters. Is there still ā€œjusticeā€ in our society?

In fact, there is only social injustice in Hong Kong nowadays. Therefore, according to official figures, at least 62 Hong Kong SAR passport holders have applied for temporary protection visas onshore since November last year. Also, dozens have fled to Canada, while hundreds to Taiwan which has just drawn up a plan to provide humanitarian support to Hong Kongers. Those countries chosen by protesters are classified as pro-democracy ā€œsheltersā€. In contrast, Hong Kongers do not believe in the Basic Law and CCP anymore. Honestly, they do not think that they could get fair trials in Hong Kong courts as the judiciary has been totally ruined by the political problems. The rule of law has disappeared in Hong Kong since #CCP interrupted the internal affairs of Hong Kong, the day when the ā€œhigh degree of autonomyā€ was deteriorated.

Hong Kong is now in an abysmal condition due to police violence and the implementation of the national security law. Thanks for various countries that support Hong Kongers in different platforms and advocating the faith of the movement. Yet, there is no time for protesters who have been suffering to wait for the bright shines on Hong Kong. Those targeted protesters might be in danger as they are targeted by the local government or Beijing. No one knows what their consequences would be. So, I am here to ask pro-democracy countries to provide humanitarian assistance to Hong Kongers. I am sure most protesters are unwilling to leave Hong Kong as they care deeply about the place where they were born and raised. Sadly, they have no choice under the tyranny.

Your decision is about their life and death. Act now to help save lives.

//To be , or not to be? That is the question- Whether ā€˜tis nobler in the mind to suffer / The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune/ Or to take arms against a sea of troublesā€/ And by opposing, end them? (Hamlet, William Shakespeare)
