Exiled bookseller: “if they can take Hong Kong back, the next is Taiwan”

The Causeway Bay Book owner Lam Wing-kee fled Hong Kong to Taiwan because he feared he was high on the watered list after enacting government proposed extradition bill.

He was grabbed by agents while crossing the Chinese boarder at Shenzhen. He speaks the ordeal for his detention in China and relates to the Hong Kong 12 young activists languishing in mainland prisons after they were arrested trying to reach Taiwan by boat.

Lam says that the political climate change is reason for all sudden change in Hong Kong thought “one-country-two-systems” still has 27 years. He continued that 67-year-old Xi Jinping is an empire holding power and can’t waits another 27 years for Hong Kong to return.

Lam moved to Taiwan because of its thriving democracy, where free speech and pollical difference are allowed, and recreated Causeway Books with the blessing of the Taiwan president. He looks now at the threat to his new home.

“For Taiwan, it depends on the people here, how they defy it,” said Lam. “We have guns and cannons What did Hong Kong have?”
