Starry Lee to hold House Committee Special Meeting on Friday Afternoon; Dennis Kwok to hold Ordinary Meeting on Fri Morning as Usual
Starry Lee, the preceding President of The House Committee of the Legislative Council (LegCo), said today (4 May) that she has decided to hold two House Committee meetings this Friday (8 May), with her power conferred by the “Rules of Procedure” and “House Rules” of LegCo, upon taking external legal advice from a Senior Counsel.
Starry Lee, in Chairman seat, was surrounded and protected by a large number of government security now, while Dennis Kwok stood aside.
The pro-democracy camp expressed their dissatisfaction. There were conflicts going on between the pro-Beijing and pro-democracy camp, and most of the LegCo members are currently still hosting livestreams, covering the situation.

The Sixth Month Chow Tsz-lok’s Death: HKUST Bans Memorial Service due to Social Distancing Rule; Civilians Pay Tribute to Chow In Various Locations

On 8 Nov 2019, 22-year-old university student Chow Tsz-Lok fell from Sheung Tak Car Park, alleged an aftermath of police brutality.
Student Union of Chow’s school, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (“HKUST”) had initially organised a memorial ceremony on 8 May 2020 which marks the 6th month of his death.
However, the university sent an email to all students and teachers today, warning that any event held within the school’s compound violating social distancing rule is illegal. The school will report to the relevant government department and penalise students and teachers flouting the rule. Moreover, the school also broadcasted warnings over the public announcement system on the social distancing rule in Cantonese, English and Mandarin. Hence, students who had initially intended to pay tribute to Chow were unable to stay for long.
Large groups of citizens also paid tribute to him in various other locations, such as Tseung Kwan O, Yuen Long and Mongkok.
Today marks the sixth month anniversary of his death. His loss still cuts deep in the hearts of many of us. We yearn for justice to be done and truth to be revealed. We will never forgive and never forget. We need to press for the truth!
